I'm going to be starting to play TF2 soon and I was wondering which one of the three classes is best to play. The aspects I'm looking for are simplicity (I will be novice after all), fun and how much their needed (i.e. if hardly needed or needed to perform certain tasks/kill certain classes).

Thanks in advance!

Spy is the hardest, then scout.. So i would recommend start as sniper, that is the one easiest of these selections..

Personally i would recommend pyro, demoman or soldier to start off with if you are completely fresh..

EDIT: To help your team mates the most when a noob, choose medic.. Can almost never get enough medics.. And people will love you for it..

I'd go for the Sniper, though as a fan of sniping that's more a matter of personal bias. Spies are rather unintuitive at first, so they're right out as a noob class. Scouts are relatively simple: The move fast, they capture points easily, and they hit people over the head with baseball bats. Snipers are even moreso: Get into a god spot, activate scope, look around, shoot at folks.

If you want to help your team, don't go Sniper. If you want to play a minigame, then go for it.

Scout may be simpler than spy but its an awful lot less forgiving. Id say start as a soldier or a medic or even an engineer, just let you learn the maps a little first

Of those three I think Sniper is simplest. Or you could try Heavy. Aim in the general direction of your enemy and hold down the fire button, simple enough. Just watch out for those nasty spyses!

The real answer is every class is both the best and worst class depending on every player, map and situation. You're better off playing each of the classes and figuring out which you like most. Even then there are gonna be times when you need to be a demoman and others when being a demoman is totally frustrating and useless.

Just go with the flow (that said, Sniper and Spy take slightly more skill than the others so they might appeal to you for different reasons. There are situations though where you'll never want to touch these classes.)

Just play around with each class. i've spent at least two hour with each class. You'll find a play style to suit you.
Each class comes attached to a tactical choice. scouts are fast but weak, snipers can headshot, but again, pretty much useless in close combat and spies are weak aswell, but a backstab is an instant kill.
I personally am a medic/pyro. Supporting teammates is pretty fun, and when you need to go on the offensive, nothing does it like a flare gun to the face from maximum range.

As a new player I would agree and say you stary with Medic. You can help your team out,and still get points for kill assists when you're healing someone. You can also get an Idea of how the game flows as a medic usually goes with the flow of the battle rather than dictates it like a Heavy does.

A Medic strategy that has served me well is to see who the highest point scoring Heavy, or Soldier and stick with him (of course still heal people that are on fire etc) The Heavy gets a good healing buff to break through turrets or mines , you get kil assists (so it doesnt look like you're useless), and charge up the Ubercharge.

Personally I play as Spy, and i'm a bit of a n00b. It boils down to what you feel comfortable playing

In my opinion, ignore those 3 classes and go pyro. Everybody has his or her own preferred class, but pyro is so easy, you could do well even if you controlled the game with your feet.

A pyro is easy to play, does good damage and if you're playing on the pc it has some good defensive abilities because the normal flamethrower can redirect rockets and grenades back to the person that shot them.(also, in some levels with a death pit, push enemies in those pits)

Since everyone seems to be a scout right now I would suggest not to go scout.
Scout rushes are common now cause of the Scout's upgrades. This can only be balanced by releasing upgrades for everyone else.

And then the sky will rain unicorns and candy.

Unfortunately yes, Valve have put very little effort into improving TF2. But someday there will be more upgrades.

Well no, I think they just want people playing the game for longer than a couple years, so they keep the updates nice and slow.

I'd say Pyro is the easiest offense class to play. You always cause good damage, you're practically unbeatable in turns or close quarters, and it's easy to hit people with the flamethrower.
