I'm an Aussie and he sounds like a Brit that has been smacked in the head a bit too much with a cricket bat :p, really doesn't sound like an Aussie to me, I thought Valve would've been able to scrounge up a Aussie just for the voice acting, guess they went with an american :/

I hope he's British, because I've never met another Australian that speaks in that ridiculously stereotyped way he does. Valve probably thinks we all use kangaroos as our only mode of transport or something.
Valve goes all-out with the stereotyping. Hell, we're home to the most powerful men on the planet and wrestle kangaroos for sport according to Valve. It's all good-natured fun though, not intended to be taken seriously.

I too want to see the evidence for British, and I'm not saying that as an accusation, I'm really curious now. His weapons are named after Australian things (Huntsman, Razorback, etc), speaks in an exaggerated Australian accent, wears the typical outback hat as his default, and speaks about his time in the bush while using Aussie slang. Quite certainly an Australian figure, even ignoring the official bio.

... You do realise it's a joke, right?

Seriously. All the TF2 characters are over-exaggerated stereotypes.
I know, I was being silly.

No-one else quote that comment.

His accent is that of a British person putting on an Australian accent. The character himself is Australian though.
Not even close.

Thats the voice actor for the Sniper.

It's an American putting on an Australian accent.

If he is English then he has some accent I've never heard...

Do you Aussies really say wanker like that?

I am English. The arguments where in the subtleties of how he spoke. I actually heard of it here on the escapist so I was hoping the people who originally said it might pipe up.

But the bio from valve clears it. Australian it is.

Ahh hah that is the root of the speculation. So the sniper is an australian but the voice actors where not perfect.

Uhm, a lot of uhh, bogans, from my town talk EXACTLY how he does, well not exactly.

But you get it.

The voice actor was not Australian so he did an impression and that's why there was room for interpretation in his accent.

Hold on...

What?
No. Just no. There's NO possible argument for him being British. Nobody from Britain speaks like that (unless they're ACTUALLY from Australia).
As you can see the argument is not that he speaks like a brit but that his australian acting is not perfect so yeah. There is an argument. Also "Wanker" is a lot more British than Australian.

He is so blatantly a massively over-exaggerated Australian stereotype. Case in point: his accent, the vast majority of his items' names. Not only that, but, as stated above, his bio says that he's Australian. :p
One thing I just realised, and am mildly surprised by, is that there isn't actually any character that takes the horrific posh Englishman and runs with it. In a game with dramatic stereotypes, this not being there is actually kinda odd :p

Well, he does sound Australian but not your typical Australian. He more a real upper class Auzzie. Most of them sound... well... like Purna [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ROV3MtPWCQ]. >.<
You watch too much stereotypical TV shows pal.

Australian and if anyone says otherwise they've obviously never actually talked to a British person.

Edit: For those arguing for British the Aussies borrow ALOT of 'our' slang, so that is normal.

Potential for the Pyro then isnt it? but yeah of all stereotypes some people seem to love that one, could be wearing the mask to hide the awful teeth. Granted im Scottish an know how the english actually are but I do enjoy the stereotypes, there entertaining in this game.

OP: I think you can put down now that the points kinda null now, considering everything points the sniper to being Australian in every way, if just blown out of proportion like everything else in the game

... Noooo. I visit Australia every couple years. My sisters husband works in the mines. So yeah, I know exactly how Australians sound.
What, like that supposedly Aboriginal woman in that Dead Island trailer? We do have CITIES and you know, non-outback civilisation here as well. Where people don't talk like they enjoy wrestling crocodiles in their spare time.
And yeah I've been living in Australia, ah, only about MY WHOLE LIFE so I'm pretty certain what the average person sounds like too. But hey, keep your generalisation then, if nothing can change your mind.

OK so officially he's Australian, but he sounds more like a London chav. A couple of his earlier sentences in the video have more or less the right accent, but I have to admit when I first saw the trailer way back I thought he was British.

I think he is Australian, despite the fact that he does not sound like one. Oh well, still an epic game. And I am curious, what are the arguements that he is British? I have certainly never heard any of them.
