Tips are kind of hard to come up with for this game considering how many different maps there are and how many different ways to set up the classes with the metric ass-ton of weapons available. All I can say is try out every class with every weapon you get until you put together things that just feel right.

only problem class i have sniper
Use the huntsman, it's basically like having an aimbot, but one that only works half the time.

Sniper is a really hard class to play when you're starting out, because you need a good understanding of the maps and other players' behaviour. You won't understand these things very well because you're just starting, and sniper is such a tactical class that you won't be able to use it for now. I recommend you play as a Medic when you're starting out, so you can follow experienced players around and watch the way they play. Some people find Medic a boring class, so you'll find that most teams have a Medic shortage. It's not a difficult class to play, so your team will forgive you for being inexperienced.

You should probably mention for what platform you got the game and what it is that you are having problems with.

I got it a year or so ago for PC, and I sucked so bad that it wasn't any fun for me. I think it's too fast-paced for me, so I doubt if any tips would help me. Apparently the only shooters I can play somewhat effectively are Counter-Strike (Source) and some older games like Unreal.

Please tell me of these Counter-Strike: Source servers that are slower-paced than Team Fortress 2. I greatly doubt that they exist, but they would be interesting to find.

Practice. Not much else to say. Also, don't be afraid to go Medic. Actually, go Medic whenever there's less than two.

Heavy's a good beginner class. Just march the bomb along the track and never stop shooting. These others are right about sniper though, he's tough to play without some understanding of the maps/where the heads are gonna pop up. Once you do though, and you get the Huntsman/Jarate, if you play smart you're an unstoppable killing machine of deathmaking. I've stopped half the other team advancing as one with one well placed Jarate and a little Heavy/Demoman support. I love me my Critpiss.

Start as Medic, keep playing as Medic till you know the maps, then just experiment with all the classes till you find the one you like.

Also don't get into trading, really killed it for me

If you know the maps, go Soldier or Demo, easy classes to learn but take time to master, avoid playing Pyro, Spy and Scout for a while, those a much harder classes to master.

I would try all the classes for a little while and find your favs, then focus on getting to know those.

Well the most important rule of all is to always, ALWAYS turn around briefly every couple of seconds. You never know when a Spy might be sneaking up behind you.

I'd recommend that you focus on the Soldier or Medic for now. The Soldier's playstyle is the most straightforward, while the Medic allows you to observe how the other classes play while providing an invaluable service to your teammates.

Don't get discouraged if you're having a hard time. Bear in mind that many players have had literally years of experience to hone their skills, so don't be surprised if you frequently die at first.

The TF2 online community is a pretty friendly bunch for the most part, so feel free to ask for advice while in-game.

Finally, don't obsess over getting all the items and hats in the game. The alternate weapons are meant to be sidegrades, not upgrades, while the hats are (mostly) cosmetic.

What I found to be the best tactic to get a good point ratio in a game:
- Pick Engi
- Build turret and distpenser next to each other
- Turtle the living fuck out of the place.

I've personally left this tactic to the bin because my skill has developed past it, but it's a good for a newcomer. People won't like you but screw them.
