Biggest tips:

1. Each class is assigned a certain task(e.g medic keeps people alive, heavy kinda push people back, demo defends certain areas, soldier is frikkin' awesome, scout cap. points/FLANK EVERYONE AND DESTROYYY, engi move up and take territory/defend territory and keep teleporter up, etc. etc.) Don't go trying to go battle medic when your teammates are dying on you. Keep to what you do best(unless it's for teh lulz).

2. Always try to reload if you get the chance. Whenever your in a safe spot or area just reload. That spare bullet might just save you.

scout is for pros, demo is for pros, spy is for pros. These classes are the last you should play since they are the most difficult to do good with. Soldier is a good simple start.

If you don't feel like playing with any skill at all, play pyro. Zing!
Kidding, of course. To all you pyro players, pyro is one of my most played classes.

But seriously, the pyro is a good class to kind of hide out and ambush people. And if not that, just charging at people with your flamethrower burning might actually get the job done. Once you get comfertable with the pyro, try air-blasting some rockets or grenades. The timing is pretty tricky, but with enough tries, you'll be able to know exactly when to blast. Plus, when you kill a soldier with his own rocket, the feeling you get is so incredible.

If you think you're a good spy already then you probably haven't been playing against too many skilled/alert people. =p
