So it was a fun ride but as tf2 gets more unpredictable I'm looking for something solid and complex. I'd love:

not-modern
hints on enemy weaponry (eg. belted weapons, distinct classes, weapons spawned/picked up)
less lethal (UT/Q3 armor shit is good, multiple body shots to kill, no regenerating health plz)
higher advantage to fast and skilled movements over being stationary/hiding (as a general strat)

I'd take three out of four no problem but so far all I've found are the golden oldies and a little mod called Sauerbraten, which has a nice little instagib community. Are my tastes just getting outdated or am I not looking hard enough?

Cheers in advance escapists,
dave

Halo reach seems to meet most of your requirements, however it does have regenerating health and I doubt you have an xbox.

To be honest, there aren't that many good multiplayer games out there with your requirements.

You could try Bad Company 2. It has regenerating health but it won't regenerate all the way without the help of a medic. Camping isn't really effective since pretty much any camping spot can be blown up. You can't really be a bullet sponge though. But it does have vehicles lots of explosions, and fully destructible buildings. It also has the fewest amount of squeeky 13 year olds. I've only encountered about 2 or 3. The classes are also very well balanced.

Absolutes! Though I haven't played since polycount I started back when only the heavy update was out. My favourite parts of shooters are the strategies. Getting hit by a soldier's rocket but rushing forwards instead and forcing him to splash himself. Nowadays who knows if he's got an EQ in his pocket or a whole unknown bag of tricks. Information gathering and using is hands down what I love most in FPS gaming and TF2 is just so full of unknowns (and growing).

I'll def give BFBC2 a try, though I woulda loved some more BF2/1942 style. And TFC, of course!

Some good ones off the top of my head would be:
Battlefield 2142
F.E.A.R. combat(free), F.E.A.R. 2
Cellfactor revolution(free)
And Farcry 2 (while modern, still a great game)

I think if you were a quake or unreal fan then the F.E.A.R. games should really tickle your fancy.

Reach is a good choice for the different types of weapons and Layouts.
Invasion Slayer is a blast ans both a Spartan or an Elite.

Also Monday Night Combat is an Excellent Class Based 3rd Person Shooter.
GUNNER FTW.

I forgot to add this earlier but if you do have a xbox 360 then Monday Night Combat is basically TF2 inspired and i doubt it will get tons of weapons like that due to it being a arcade game....so you get TF2 without all the weapon changes :).
