I'm a recently depressed gamer, who lost his xbox 360 to the red ring of death (code 0102)
big surprise there, i know
i am also an unemployed 17 year old who just wants a cheap, effective way to revive his long lost friend
i have a feeling that some one is going to say "send it in to microsoft" or something else i've only heard about a million times, but i'd rather spend my time learning how to fix it.
yea, it sounds stupid, but it is what it is.I see thousands upon thousands of vids claiming that this will indefinitely fix my xbox, but i need a mass opinion before i got heat my xbox up with a heatgun, or remove the x-clamps and pay for some screws and washer that won't end up working
I would appreciate a quick, informative response on which would be the best for me
and i would also appreciate at least a link to somewhere that can explain how to do this fix.
Thank you for your time

Seriously.. Just send it in! The quicker you send it in, the quicker you get it back.
And it voids the warranty if you try and fix it yourself. So if you Screw up, you have No Xbox, and No way to fix it.

I suggest you don't use DIY fixes
They void the warranty, and it's only temporary. I'm in your same predicament, but I'm doing random odd-jobs around town to raise the money to fix it.

If it's the RRoD, though, shouldn't the warranty cover it?

You could try the towel trick, although it is only a temporary solution. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avWs4-wD15w, there's the link.http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/edit/9.118566.2274108

Although I'd say just send it to microsoft, that way you don't have to re-do it.

Wrap it in a towel, that work's sometimes
And starts fire the other times.
There is no proven fix at the moment... I would say crack that baby open and make it more heat resistant and re solder anything that came off. Actually, I wonder what the guts of a RROD 360 look like compared to a normal one.

Whatever you decide to do, keep in mind that if you open it up Microsoft may refuse to fix it from that point on.

sigh....

there's really no easy way for your 360 to get fixed by you if it has the red ring of death
i'm really sorry pal but trying to find a way is like finding a needle in a haystack your just gonna have to send it away.

first off you need to remove the face plate... pre heat an oven to 200c or gas mark 5, wrap it in some tin foil with a table spoon of butter, add some seasoning salt, some herbs, dash of garlic, bake it for 10-15 mins and ta daa a tasty meal, feeds a family of 4 for under £200 lol

If it's a proper RROD, and if the warranty isn't expired (which they upped to 3 years, right?), you can have it sent off and repaired for free in like, one or two weeks.

Sure beats wrapping it in a towel and stuffing it with fucking coins.

Mine got the RROD once, but I used my warranty to cover that...
Now my graphics card died too but I had no warranty so I did the towel trick and that helped for a few days but... I sent it in and paid the money.
You're most likely covered (I hope) by the three year warranty. I know it's not what you want to hear because. Of all the tricks... I'm not sure but the towel one was pretty simple, just monitor you console every once in a while.

Seriously though, the best thing is to send it in. Make an account on Xbox.com and put in your product number (in back of the Xbox or where the two front USB ports are) hopefully you're covered. Good luck with it.

I believe the warranty covers the RROD for three years. It doesn't cost anything to send it back and the turn around time is fairly fast if you're in North America. Attempting to fix it manually is a fantastic waste of time that will earn you nothing but a voided warranty.

Then you get to buy a new 360 yourself.

Don't try to fix it yourself. You can't. You'll just prolong the agony that way. Be smart, send it off to Microsoft and let them fix it.

Give it a good couple of whacks with a spatula covered in hamburger grease... If it doesn't work then, please tell me so I can laugh.
