That game isn't hard, you're just stupid. No. Really.

With Final Fantasy 8 my first run against Ultimecia took about 3 hours. I had all the wrong spells and effects slotted and I paid for it. When I picked up the game again a few years later I was up against her again and settled in for the long haul. This time, I noticed one of my characters, Irvine, had Water slotted in to his attack and he was shredding her HP right off the counter. A quick reboot and reslot, not one of my party died and I killed Ultimecia in about 30 minutes.

It sounds like most people really did fail at a game because of a lack of understanding of a certain game mechanic or nuance.

I can also think of games though, now that I ponder it, that I sucked at because I knowingly defied the system. Again using Persona as an example; I would only use Persona that were appealing to look at, or just plain pretty. Meaning I missed out on a LOT of awesomely statted Persona because they looked funny so I didn't want them in my party. Eheh...

I admit to doing this to this day. I tend to pick party members in any RPG for personality and looks rather than what their actual fighting ability is. In fighting games like Tekken and Soul Calibur, I'll pick one of the nimble female characters and work on it until I'm good at it, even if I am naturally much better with a different (uglier) character.

Shallow me.

Yeah, I'm playing Valkyria Chronicles again. The first time I tried, I had a LOT of trouble, and blah-blah-blah.

This time? Fuck scouts. Fuck Lancers. Who needs tanks? I've got SHOCKTROOPERS, *****.

Seriously though. Shocktroopers solve about 80% of all of my problems. Snipers, Scouts, and Engineers solve everything else. Lancers just sit in a corner and pretend to be helpful. The game is SO much easier, it's not even funny.

Though it might also have something to do with the fact that everytime it gives me a new Skirmish map,I just do all the OTHER skirmish maps over again to get up to the new one...

My approach was slightly different...

Villager: We need more houses. There's too many of us!
Me: I'll sacrifice your children. No more overpopulation. You're welcome.

Villager: We're starving! We need more food!
Me: I'll sacrifice your children. Less mouths to feed. You're welcome.

Villager; We're under attack! Save us!
Me: I'll sacrifice your children. With the mana boost, I can defend your village with my godly powers. You're welcome.

Villager: We want more children!
Me: I'll sacri...wait... *throws villager like a tennis ball into a mountain*
Me: Hmmm, this requires a new plan...

Yeah, I had a hard time earning any good points, lol.

OT: Oblivion. I started it back up and wondered to myself, "Why the hell is my Speechcraft so high, and my Armorer so low?"

Dwarf Fortress.

I remember losing every single damn time I played that game. Now, I manage to actually get up to about 100 population or so before I die, so easy.

Oh, wait...

Oregon Trail is seconded.

Fire Emblem... I wasn't initially aware that the starting paladins were supposed to suck... Marcus kinda made it to the final level....

There's no wrong way to play a game. Just one that gets you to the end. As long as you're enjoying it... But yes, I did suck more at games in the past. Now I'm a badass at Halo for all of three minutes in the first round. I used to be able to get two or fewer kills per match.

I think a lot of games are that way, or at least gamers :p

BTW nice touch with the offensive title, to bring in all the offended nay-sayers for more views/posts ;D

I don't find it with too many games these days, but just analyzing things and paying attention really pays off for me.

Kotor, I was stuck on Taris for so long I gave up. I came back a year ago and beat the game in a week or two. I just didn't understand RPG's when I was younger.

Also Super Mario 2, I got stuck on level 1-3 almost as soon as I got the game, two months ago I finally got off of it and beat the game. That was nearly ten years of being stuck on THE THIRD LEVEL OF A MARIO GAME.

I'm really just not that good at video games to begin with.

I really hope no one is stupid enough to click the link.

Also, Fire Emblem, and Baldur's Gate Shadows of Amn.
In my younger days, I got trashed. Now they are no challenge.

Xenogears. When I was a little kid the battle system made no sense to me. I could barely do combos. Now, over 10 years later, I'm back in the game and it's been a cakewalk so far.

Whenever I died in TLOS:TEN, the game seemed to yell this in my ear. You were supposed to use your Dragon Time as a super complex dodge move, but you NEVER had enough to dodge any sort of attack. So I'd die. And warp back to the start. And die. And warp back to the start. Every time, it was like the game was raping my soul. I'm too scared to touch it now. I never did finish it, and as much as I want to play the sequel, it wouldn't make sense without the information that TLOS:TEN witheld from me.
