Alice: Madness Returns.
Pretty good game by itself.
As a sequel to American McGee's Alice: Utterly wasted potential. NO BOSSES!!!!!!
I totally agree, the gameplay was there, the enviroments were there, it was almost amazing.
But then they ran out of time/budget, and instead of bossfights we got some crappy "artistic" cutscenes where the boss died.
It really sucked, because every world was really preparing you for a boss, there was always one character from the Alice in Wonderland story, who turned evil and tried to kill you throughout the stages, but when you reached them, they just died.
very dissapointing

Apparently I can't go five minutes without yelling at Dear Esther these days. But yeah, Dear Esther. All they had to do was throw in ANY kind of gameplay, literally ANY. Even some bog-standard Source engine see-saws would've been something.

Breaking rule one of the escapist over this one, but Half Life 2.

Everything seemed far too convienient, wandering round in chaos and confusion but running into your mates from the last game or objects I needed to progress the story. Plus I completely lost what the story was all about halfway through. It seemed to turn into and endless procession of soldiers and bugs, just shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot.

The only thing half life 2 had going for it was the source engine, which was great for its time.

Oh? This Thread? Muahahahahahaaaaa!

Elder Scrolls IV & V, both lacking everything III had; in depth and immersion.

Dragon Age 1 & 2 just both fell flat to me.

Spore, because Spore.

I want to write more but I shouldn't... though on the other side of the devastating lack of good spectrum, I thought Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning delivered what Lionhead and its Fable franchise couldn't. They even took out that "Karma" bullshit, and all that relationship wankery. Happy, this game made me.

zelda spirit tracks, I just don't understand how anybody would think riding an awful train for 80% of the game where the other 20% is in bare bones dungeons as a good time. It's like they wanted to make a zelda game as bad as humanly possible.

Brink and AMY. The worst part was I could actually see the good games behind all the bullshit.

Minecraft. I want adventure mode to be more rpg-ish, quests, items, maybe levels and some form of fast travel coupled with points of interest in the map. Kinda like Terraria but more. The possibility is there. Have some form of fast travel linking different biomes, like npc villages specific to each biome with trade caravans moving between them, random dungeons in the wilderness (they already have them pretty much, just add more stuff to do in those dungeons), random events. Basically I want Minecraft merged with Skyrim.

Give me a Minecraft like that and I would gladly pay 60 bucks for it. Hell, it would be worth more than most 60 buck games out there.

I agree with NeverDead, but I haven't played Asura's Wrath yet because for some reason everywhere including the rest of Europe (as far as I can tell) got it on the week beginning 20th Feb, whereas the UK will be getting it the 9th of March

Folklore

Great concept and visual design, as well as being the only game that used the sixaxis in a terrific manner.

But the end result was rather shit.

Assassins creed, brotherhood and revelations. Or as i like to say, the expansion packs for ac2.
Pah! You obviously meant to say that Assassin's Creed 2, Brotherhood and Revelations failed to deliver where the first Assassin's Creed got it right. The only thing the sequels had going for them were the still impressive cities and landscapes.
The characters in Assassin's creed 1 are the best written ones in the series.
True. They managed to convey a concept rather than a convoluted Hollywood blockbuster type story, plus they felt authentic. In AC2 I felt like every character I encountered was a bad actor overacting a historical Italian while throwing in a stereotype for each.

The sequels were in no way bad games (as a lot of people enjoyed them), but they lost all focus and built their games on a basis that wasn't compatible with what they wanted out of the franchise anymore. They switched to making action games.

Spore all the way.

Looking at the E3 presentations for it, it was going to be boss.

Then it got dumbed down. Dumbed down again, dumbed down again and then finally someone put googly eyes on the creatures.

I guess maybe Solatorobo Red the hunter count. That game had several minigames like fishing, exploring and racing when put into one game together it felt disjointed and short.
I think it would of been better if they had made it longer and polsh it more since the exploring in the robot was somewhat akward to control.

Dead Island hasn't been mentioned yet. It just doesn't feel right but the idea is great.

Hoping for a sequel with everything sorted out.

The Last Remnant had really good battle mechanics which were sadly never properly explained to the player and the world itself had freedom just a step above FFXIII which is not saying much.

I can't say Brink enough times.

If everything they advertised in the early preview videos made it through to the full game it would have been a true contender for CoD and maybe even Team Fortress.

The Force Unleashed 2. I love myself a good starwars game once in a while and I did enjoy the first one. And then came TFU2 -.-.
