The day that defined my "I Feel Old" moment, I think, was when a friend of my nephew was over, and saw the old original NES console I had hooked up to my telly.
It had a controler, and a light gun on it (for duckhunt... look it up). I was playing the original Super Mario Brothers, and they asked me, straight faced, "What are you playing? I don't know what console that is."

That's when it hit me, sitting there, telling a 14 year old about a game that was twice their age, that came out the year after I was born.

They have a PS3, X-box 360, and an iphone. They play video games, so they are a part of the gaming community (a young part, but a part none the less), and they didn't recognize Super Mario, of the NES console... I Feel Old

I haven't had that moment yet. I am 27 right now and still going! Sure, there are a lot of moments when I could say "Back in my day!" but I don't feel old or out of touch.

Seconds ago, when I checked the OP's profile and saw I'm four years older than a guy who started a "I'm old" thread.

I realised I had no new age to look forward to. I'm old enough to drink and that's the last thing of freedom I am afforded.
Also, when I realised that knowing the connection between these two objects is not common knowledge.

That too. And that picture cracked me up.

many instances now.

The cartoons I used to watch are either no longer running or only on at night for old insomniacs like me.

I don't understand why kids enjoy these annoying shows they watch.

I get angry when people make crappy re-makes of old movies, cartoons, ect. ect. ect.

When I get up from bed with kinks in my back from the previous nights work.
When I look at my bank account and fear that I don't have enough cash to pay bills.

I have to explain to younger people who certain people are or what a VCR is. When kids ask me what I used to do for fun when I was younger.

Driving home from work then crashing on the couch.

But my defining moment was when I was standing in line at the grocery store making small talk with an older woman about "kids these days".

I'm only 19 years old hahaha.

I teach history classes in the evenings to college kids. The very first year I started, someone gave me the Beloit College list of "The Things your Incoming Freshman Class Knows".

It actually hurt to read it.

Last week at work. Two of the managers were talking about how one of the cashiers, a pretty Hispanic girl, was in the back making gift baskets for the holidays while two of the stock workers, both in their late teens, stayed in the back and flirted with her (the point was that they were distracting her). My response was along the lines of "Well, they're kids. Their hormones are going crazy. I remember what it was like to act like that." They both looked at me like I was crazy, and I realized I was talking like Grandpa recalling the golden years. We all laughed, but inside I was going o_O

The really sad part? I'm only 22.

A week ago, while riding the bus, a kid offered me his seat, with a "Would you like to sit down, sir?"

Goddamnit, I'm not that old yet!

Edit: I just remembered another little... "incident". I was talking about music to a group of friends younger than me, and happened to mention vinyls. They asked me what band was that.

I don't think I could provide a more accurate description for my experience than this guy did, down to the age even. Though I think I will add when I realized how long ago some games I enjoyed as a kid came out.

When I realized that I have no chance of conveniently finding someone to love me ever again.

Because I no longer go to school, college, uni or any of that, there is never a social situation in which romance can develop. It's a realization that I've completed my childhood, puberty, and teenage years, and am now on to the lonely, grueling, depressing road to receiving my pension and having a nice sit down in the old peoples home.

Wow, sorry about that for whoever read it.

Damn, my cynical pessimism was stolen! Give it back!

Probably the first time I felt a sense of nostalgia. I can't remember the exact first time, but every time I feel myself pining for the days when games came on 3 1/2 inch floppy disks, I feel way older than I have any right to.
In my day games came on 8-inch floppy disks, youngin' ;)
in my day, games came on tape, and you'd have to spin them up for 30 minutes to make sure the tape was tight..

ooooohhhhhh boy it's a vider game!! hoo hoo! only been waiting half a day for it to boot up as-well

so, yeah.
who remembers the circuit diagram page in the commodore user manual ? :D

That would be when I met a bunch of high school kids who had never heard of Rage Against the Machine.

You think your Commodore 64 is pretty neato. What kinda chip you got in there, a Dorrito?

...and that's not even what I'd consider an old one. You gotta go back the the MJ parodies before you're in the realm of my childhood.

Part of me thinks I have no business posting here, but I certainly feel old. I remember when I was 10 I would think, "in 6 years I can drive a car; in 8 I can move out." Now I'm thinking, "I haven't even taken Driver's Ed, and move out? Shit, I'll be lucky if I can find a job, let alone an apartment..."
I have cousins that live out of state. When I was a kid, they'd come over every summer and visit, usually staying at my house. They stopped doing that a while ago; then the other day my sister shows me a picture of my cousin Haley on Facebook. It felt like somebody punched me in the stomach: She's 15 now. The only memories I have of her are when she was like, 9.
My older brother has a son, Evan. He's almost two. I'm an uncle. I mean, shit. I'm only 16.

EDIT: Also, tomorrow's Halloween and I don't give a shit. I wasn't excited last year, either, for Halloween or Christmas.

I'm only 19 too, but I've always been kinda more mature I guess you could say. For me it was about 1 year ago when I was in the middle of the living hell that is midterm season at my school (basically tests and assignments every couple days that stress and tire you out to the point that you literally feel sick). I was coming home from a day at the university and I saw these 3 kids in grade 9 so about 14 years old talking about how they had so much work to do because they had a test on equations of the line and a 1 page essay in the same week. After hearing that I couldn't help but realize that kids these days don't know what having real work is.
