In Serious Sam 2 there is an endurance level that is basically hell, as far as I was concerned. Called Welcome to the Jungle, one of the sub-levels involved unleashing wave after wave of Kleers at you- a tough low level foe, on their own not too difficult. But adding a time limit, a scavenger hunt AND death if you fail was too much for me. I did it, but will likely never try it again.

Half-Life's chapter 9 - "Apprehension". The game and chapter that started my videogame-induced hydrophobia. As much as I love this game, I usually have to quit for a breather before tackling this chapter, or skip it altogether. I fear no man, but that thing... it scares me.

I kinda had the opposite problem with the first two hours of Twilight Princess.

It starts off as a normal first act where link is a simple shepard working in a small village. You do small chores, collect McGuffins for smaller kids, help out the local shop.

I imagined link looking at the clock and waiting until the dragon/orks will arrive and level the settlement. Nothing happeneds.

The entire two hour period of the game is doing minial tasks for people you don't care about. You collect chicken, fix the windmill, plow the fields, herd the sheep, fetch glass bottles, brew soup, destroy a beehive. You would expect the game start, but the first act just keeps going and going.

Two hours in to the game and one of the villages gets kidnapped and taken in to a cave.

The rest of the game is quite an adventure, but the intro just kills my will to replay it.

Undertale's final boss in the Genocide route.
Just reached that one, I've died 12 times already. Undyne took me over a week to beat.

I feel like I'm going to have a bad time.

Metroid Prime 2's Boost Guardian, despite me not finding it as difficult as most people seemed to find it, made me go "Nahhh" about replaying it as often as I replayed Metroid Prime 1.

Isn't chapter 9 Nova Prospekt? Don't you mean the riverboat level, chapter 4?

You're thinking HL2. Xeros is talking about the first game, the level in question has a lot of flooded ruins. It's right after the rocket launch.

Ohh! Silly me. Yes the one with the swimming beasties and whatnot, where you get the crossbow. Yeah that level was a hassle.

Yeah Greene was...well...a "Mother" to beat. But it was far from the worst things that could happen in [PROTOTYPE].
You could so horribly screw over the character of the first game that you not only COMPLETELY UNNECESSARILY turn him in to a heel but you also kill him off with just a succession of quick time events.
But oh well.
As mentioned numerous times by people who have played Dragon Age: Origins, the Fade and the Deep Roads. However let us also mention the Elven Ruins, Redcliffe and the temple in Haven. I will give it this though, at least every part of the sections gave you that extra UMPH to keep you going. The fade letting you go full Attack on Titan with the golem transformation (More hilarious in hindsight if you were a dwarf and have Shale with you), the Elven Ruins with the armor of the Juggernaut, the temple that you go through in Haven having an optional dragon battle which if you finish and take the bones then Wade can make some spiffy armor for you, and all around it was just nice to have something good waiting for you at the end of everything honestly.
Areas I never want to see again besides that?
None really
But for bosses, my god do I not want to fight Vergil in Devil May Cry 3 ever again.
I don't know why but Dante is just the weekest little shit if you aren't playing with Royal Guard against Vergil.
Completely the opposite of when you play as Vergil himself against Vergil in which case you decimate Vergil.
Just proves how much of an eternal badass Vergil is.

All boss fights in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. First off; why the hell are there boss fights in that game to begin with? A boss fight is supposed to be like an exam, where the game tests all the skills you've learned up until that point. DE:HR is a stealth game, so unless you have to make use of your stealth skills, boss fights don't have a place in this game.

Secondly, if you're going for a pacifist run you have to keep a lethal gun in your inventory and hoard ammo purely for those boss fights. I screwed up the first time I played the first big mission. I ignored all guns and ammo because I wanted to do a pacifist run. Boy was I salty when it turned out it was impossible to beat the stupid boss at the end of the level without a proper weapon.

Overall I enjoyed my time with Human Revolution a lot, but the bossfights felt tagged on and ruined the flow of the game.

The Four Kings/The Dukes Archives in Dark Souls. Actually everything after you place the Lord Vessel I can do without, but Giant's Tomb isn't so bad.

Etrian Odyssey games are a pain to replay because of the single save file.

I was loving Arkham Origins and then found myself facing Death Stroke. On easy, it is too hard, repetitive and dull. Even watching youtube on how to beat him, not worth the effort. Dang it.

Remember the Fade in DA: Origins? Seriously, fuck that place and everything it holds dear. Thankfully on PC there's a mod that lets you skip the Fade while still acquiring all exp/codex entries/items/etc.

I don't think so, but it was quite a while ago so I can't really remember. I bought and played it at release.

In what way were they edited?

ah that explains it. they altered the levels so you could defeat the bosses with stealth builds for instance activating turrets to take one out rather than having to shoot them. it also integrates the DLC including the story DLC into the main game. really has a good and different feel to it now

sewer levels.. yeah they make me pause as well

O wow, I didn't know that. Now I might consider buying the Directors Cut, cause I haven't played the DLC either. Thanks!
