Uh there's this one boss in Persona 4 who literally turns around and bitchslaps you in the face in I think the third dungeon. It really spikes the difficulty, partly because Black Frost doesn't work against him. Black Frost is stupidly good in the second and third dungeons but he falls off hard after that, think Drake Sword in Dark Souls type falling off. Really good to absolute bollocks in a second.

Ok fine i'll name it but spoilers

Shadow Teddie if you don't realise who i'm going on about. Shadow Rise was deceptively manageable then BOOM FUCK YOU SHADOW TEDDIE IN YOUR FACE!
I found Shadow Yukiko to be much more annoying. I can't remember exactly since the last time I played P4 was when golden was released but wasn't Shadow Yukiko not weak to anything in the original cause in Golden she's weak to ice and super easy.

I suppose this is a bad time considering I'm just playing it now, but FUCK Sundowner in Metal Gear Rising!
Oh, whats that? Didn't approach him at just the right time, at just the right angle and without a full blade bar?
FUCK YOU! Prepared to be destroyed by his stupid shitty exploding armour bullshit

The Demi-fiend in Digital Devil Saga. It don't matter how high a level you are, he will blow your face off and sleep like a baby. I still have never defeated him and I came close one time until his damn Pixie used Recarmdra which restores all of his Hp and magic. If you don't know exactly what moves to have he will sbsolutely insta-kill you on the first turn.

Yeah it was her Charming Prince that was the one weak to Ice I believe. Yukiko herself wasn't weak to anything, it's the boss that warns you that the game ain't fucking around no more son! Though if she's weak to Ice to Golden that might be diminished a little bit, unless Charming Prince isn't weak to anything in Golden then it's just gone possibly harder. At least different.

I would get Golden but I don't have a Vita and I doubt it could have improved it that much. Plus i've heard there's super bullshit bad ending added in for fuck all reason. Literally aid the killer cover up the crime and get off scot free? Atlus! Come on guys... Know your own themes for the love of god, I know you don't HAVE to pick it but the option being there is a little disconcerting.

Either Gwyn or Artorias.
For some reason I just cannot for the life of me parry Gwyn anymore and the run back is what really makes me rage.
As for Artorias I had to quit for awhile because I just wasn't timing my dodges properly and dodging a little too early and not using my i-frames. I came back after a week or so and beat him though, the biggest problem was that I was using power-within and it was a long fight.

I didn't have a problem with four kings, beat them on my first try it seemed that the fight was just a DPS race if anything.
If you dodge properly the fight is really easy when you have the DPS. I used a +15 Uchigatana buffed with Darkmoon blade (+2) and power-within. Haven't played NG+ though so you know.

Artorias and Gwyn are the only bosses that took more than one sitting to beat. Seems to be that the trick to most bosses is to just stand close and maneuver around the sides for the most part, obviously you have to move away on occasion.

Lucifer from SMT: Nocturne.
He got 66 thousand HP, a whole arsenal of cheap-ass attacks and resistance to EVERYTHING!!!
I disagree . Once you get through , the amala labyrinth , you are immune to BS for the rest of your playthrough/gaming career. Even more so if you do it on hard mode . But does that really count? Since he's basically a " secret boss" , there no difficulty spike . You go through the rage enducing labirinyh , fight baal and a bunch of bs bosses , then continue into the final dungeon ( which is piss easy in comparaison) then fight the final boss and all his forms .

OT: i want to say Elizabeth from Persona 3 , but she is a secret boss also so i won't count her , instead i'll choose the final boss from SMT: Strange journey . Good luck surviving the final boss and her final form , even at max level that boss is NOT easy . And she can still kill you in one turn if you are unlucky .
Well technically fighting Lucifer is necessary to get the True Demon ending so he counts. And sweet god does SMT SJ's difficulty spike at the end. The Normal path end boss is too damn hard. I raged like 3 times in the same day trying to beat her.

...that turns a usually-smooth game into complete insanity.
...that just appears out of nowhere and spikes the difficulty so high that you are left speechless wondering WTF just happened.
...that no matter how many times you played the game, makes you his ***** in the first attempt at defeating him.

We all have That One Boss. For me, that's Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts 2. Never playing the arena area much in KHI, I never faced Sephiroth before. I just come to the end of Hollow Bastion, and this one winged dude is waiting for me. I recognize olde Seph immediatly. The boss battle then begins. I try to attack, he blocks, and one attack from him kills me. Just like that.

I tried time and time again, to defeat him I had to grind to lvl.99, go to a GameFAQ to see what were the most OP moves, and create Ultima by going back and forth to collect the Orchaluims+.

AND EVEN THEN THE SON OF A ***** TOOK 27 TRIES TO KILL.
Seph is pretty difficult in KH1, but I only faced him during a 100% replay (AFTER defeating him in KH2). He's considerably stronger in KH2, I think. Maybe it took me less tries because I sidestepped the battle until I was Lvl. 70-something before I even dared challenge the bloke. And even then it took several tries before I won, which I did thanks to packing nothing but Megalixirs on me and consulting several guides.

EDIT: Oh and of course, synthetizing Ultima.

Fucking Monsoon in Metal Gear Rising. Dude has speed, range, can pretty much let your attacks pass through him and attack you separately with the top and bottom halves of his body. I've played the game so much that I can pretty much dance around all the bosses but Monsoon....

At least the music for his fight kicks ass.

Please, tell me how the fuck you're meant to beat Sundowner. Everytime I try to slice up his shield the angle is all wrong and I screw it up. I only start with one health pack so I can't last long enough to just run in circles and chip his health away either, I've tried that

Well I don't know about the aid the killer ending but Shadow Yukiko is WAY easier in Golden I believe I killer her before she could even summon Charming Prince or he died really fast I can't remember exactly. I was playing on normal so maybe it's different on harder difficulties. I actually bought my vita just for Golden and I personally think it was worth it (I did get it on sale though). It streamlined fusing so you can actually pick the skills you want to carry over, added 2 new social links, a new dungeon, more events plus I believe 2 extra months to play but I'm not sure on that one, I also believe everyone has a third stage persona instead of just 2 when you max social links. I'm not sure if it's worth the price of a the system for Golden alone but if you see more games for vita coming out Golden is an excellent addition and a well worth it remake in my opinion of course.

You can actually just jump behind him every time he puts his shield up but in case you don't know you have to adjust the blade mode angle with both joysticks not just the left one + square/x

Yeah I was in the same situation as you the first time I fought him, plus my analogue sticks are kinda...fucked, it's nearly impossible for me to aim precisely when he's got the shield closed so I just let him come to me. The first time I killed him I did it without cutting off any of his shield panels by using the dodge move to just circle around him, the dodge is OP as fuck once you've got the timing down.

Now that I'm more used to it I just wait for him to charge me with the shield closed, block it, do the button mashy bit and then only cut off one panel at a time to play it safe. But yeah, try using the dodge to get behind him, then when he's about to swing the shield back to hit you just use the dodge again to jump back, then rinse and repeat.

I imagine I would agree with you had I been able to reach the end of that game. Unfortunately, that would require beating
Ouroboros, and seriously, fuck that. The first form was doable, if difficult, but the second form? Nope, no dice. She constantly regenerates health, spams party-wide mass damage attacks, amd resists or absorbs almost every type of attack.
I stopped playing the game cuz I kept getting slaughtered. No other boss has ever done that to me.

So dance around him using the dodge dash (which should've been unlocked from the start and better explained, but w/e) and try to fix blade mode a bit in the controls menu. Right, I'll give it a bash in the morning, thanks for the help

Persona 4 pulls that at least 3 times to my knowledge, once in the one you mentioned, second

adachi then goes to giant fog eyeball!

then
if shooting for the true ending final boss pulls the same thing, 2 phases

One of the very few games where on my first play through I started using guides simply out of paranoia of every boss pulling that

OT: for me it was the last boss in the first kingdom hearts, even before he goes into wierd space ship form , everything till that point had been a breeze but my defense seemed to be absolutely terrible and just one hit would practically annihilate me, so many almost destroyed ps2 controllers, I did it in the end at least

Sephiroth in the first Kingdom Hearts. I never managed to beat him, it was just too difficult a fight.
Indeed. KH2 Sephiroth was a cakewalk compared to the fight against him in the first game, although the fight in the second game felt much more badass.
