The giant mech boss on planet snivelac in Ratchet and Clank 2.
Oh god this boss was freaking insane, I literately started replaying planets just to get enough money to buy the R.Y.N.O II on my first playthrough...
It still wasn't enough.

I throw my hat into the Four Kings as well.

Granted, it wasn't like the game was sunshine and rainbows before then, but the Kings ultimately broke a cardinal rule that had been established at that point: to be cautious and survey your surroundings. Even Ornstein and Smough had a reason for you to block or take it slow, but not the Four Kings. They actively demand that you break tradition and just go ballistic on them. I've beaten them twice so far, once with a long fight with a Titanite Catching Pole, and another using an OP as fuck Black Knight Halberd with some Pyromancy on the side...that, and a whole lotta armor.

With regards to the boulders, you know it's possible to just dodge them right? That part is basically impossible for me to do on Very Hard and Revengence difficulties because of my controller so one day I thought "fuck it" and just legged it towards him hoping for the best and the debris just flew over my head.

Doing this also means that he won't immediately do it again whereas if you screw it up he'll usually just jump right back up and throw more at you.

Yeah, I knew within the 5th try, but I really wanted to get it done right, I needed the nano-pastes they dropped and besides, it looked badass. I now normally dodge the second and third boulder throws because I have a decent stock of paste.

True, but you won't get the free healing items. Also, I wanted to learn to do those precise cuts anyways.

Four Kings didn't give me so much trouble, but I knew I had to go full retard on DPS to make the fight manageable. So I did exactly that. Managed to beat 'em without ever having to fight more than 1 at a time. NG+ too.
Never played Demon's Souls, so I don't know about the Flamelurker.
I did play lots of Diablo II though, and I still remember that fighting Duriel on Hell difficulty was essentially admitting that you were tired of your existence on this planet.
Fuck Duriel.

Edit: Just remembered the Artorias DLC. Played it on NG+. Sanctuary Guardian wasn't very hard, just dodge everything than flay his immortal spirit with retarded DPS.
But then I went back there and came across the Double Guardian bonus boss. Same guy as before, just two of them.
It was kind of like being locked in a very, very small room with a Deinonychus and another Deinonychus. Not fun.

Flamelurker stops me in my tracks every single run through of Demon's Souls.

He is super aggressive. Making it tough to get a hit in or heal while maintaining your composure.

Then once you have damaged him sufficiently he becomes even more aggressive. Adrenaline usually gets me killed at this point.

Painful stuff.

Uh, you know you're supposed to use the turrets located on top of the buildings to kill him right?

OT: For me this goes WAY back to my SNES days when I was barely...6-7. I absolutely hated the final bosses of all the Megaman X games! Sigma almost always felt like a battle of attrition more than anything. No real weaknesses, and multiple phases mean you'll be out of most kinds of weapon energy and sub-tanks by the end. I still don't like fighting him, even today now that I know about the Hadoken upgrade.

I can't remember an actual boss atm, so I'll go with the last challenge from Vanquish. The first four rounds are tough enough before you get to the dual boss accompanied by annoying enemies. Still need that trophy.

Artorias (although the Sanctuary Guardian was also very difficult). Manus and Gwyn were still bad, but Artorias trained me so they weren't as bad.

Duriel is also definitely a pain, always.

Not mentioned before:

One of the boss battles in Metroid Prime 3 on Hard, the one with the crystals on its shoulders, couldn't beat it.

And the secret boss in Castlevania: Lament of Innocence on PS2: The Forgotten One on Hard. So big, so much HP... Keep wanting to go back and replay it but never do.

Yizmat from FF12 - the most obnoxiously long boss I've ever seen. He's not even especially hard, he just takes forever. Being a completionist, if I ever replayed the game I'd probably force myself to beat him again and I'd still hate it.

Yea, I share that sentiment, the four(?) Kings didn't give me too much of a problem, since they share a health bar. Keeping with the Dark Souls theme, The Ceaseless Discharge wrecked my shit so many times I stopped counting.I finally just decided to stop trying to find clever ways to fight him and just come back in like 20 hours.

He actually has quite a tragic backstory, but it still felt great when I finally worked him over.
Did you fight him head on? If so, hats off to you, sir. The way most people do it is the impossibly easy way where they just run back to the fog gate after nicking the clothes. There's a gap that he will try to jump, but he won't make it. Easiest win in the game, technically, but I wouldn't dream of fighting that beast head on, he'd tear me apart.

And yeah, that's a common theme with a lot of bosses in Dark Souls. Very depressing game, actually.
Yea, I fought him straight up, and now that I know about the impossibly easy way, I definitely won't be doing that again. It's just alot of heartache. It really is rather depressing, I feel especially bad for Sif though, I actually didn't want to kill him. And even Gywn, kinda.

Primal Dialga from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness.

That. Fucking. Boss.

He took 30+ attempts to kill. I literally punched a hole in my wall after nearly getting him and then dying.

The game was easy before him, and easy after him (until you fight Darkrai), but Primal Dialga was too damn hard for me.

Uh... Lets see...
Spyro: Year of the dragon's second boss. The giant bugger with a plasma cannon.
I don't know why, but he was the single hardest boss in the game, or even the hardest boss of most of my childhood.
I don't remember why, but damn if he wasn't the one I hated.

You see, I know a lot of people who had trouble beating Sephiroth in KH2, but I beat him while being level 45 just by blocking, dodging, and healing at just the right time. Granted, I tried memorizing him telegraphing certain attacks, and that overall is what helped me beat him, and every time since. KH1, still haven't beat him there ._.

Anyway, I would say when I was young I could never beat Sephiroth at the end of FF7. Honestly I've never beat FF7, and only know the ending by Youtube. I've tried replaying FF7 a few times since to finally beat it and get bored with it by disc 3. He was the first boss I ever fought in a video game that had multiple forms, and I completely didn't expect it.

Sephiroth in the first Kingdom Hearts. I never managed to beat him, it was just too difficult a fight.
Indeed. KH2 Sephiroth was a cakewalk compared to the fight against him in the first game, although the fight in the second game felt much more badass.
Seriously? After coming back to KHI to see what Olde Seph looked like, after getting my ass handed to me in KHII, I found him much, much easier, even at lvl.70. Yes, it was still hard as fuck, but not exactly KHII Sephiroth hard as unforgiving uncaring almighty fuck.

I wonder why?

Have you played the DLC by any chance? It actually manages to make the Sif fight even sadder, which is saying a lot, really, since you are literally killing a wounded, limping dog by the end of the fight. When he swings his sword and then falls on his side, kicking his legs helplessly, I just feel really, really bad.

Easily this guy.

He was also the last boss, and the one that pops your Phase Battle cherry. And he wasn't nice when he did it.
FFFFFUUUUUUUU-

Yeah, I hated fighting Skeith. He was a royal pain in the ass, especially in his second form; in which his speed doubled. And here my innocent little 12 year old mind thought that Data Draining that asshole would make things easier... NOPE!

OT: As for other hard bosses that've made my life miserable; I'd have to say The Spectral Keeper right before Yunalesca and Yunalesca herself from Final Fantasy X have always been a pain.

Other examples of bosses that stopped me in my tracks include (SPOILERS AHOY!):

Demon Wall and Carry Armor - Final Fantasy 7
-- Fuck the Carry Armor and it's ability to completely incapacitate allies. Were it not for grabbing Knights of the Round on the second disc, this guy would be a HUGE pain to kill. The Demon Wall is just a generally hard Wake-Up Call boss.

The Queen Beast and Demon!Furiae - Drakengard
-- The Queen Beast, mainly for the shift from an action RPG/Flight Simulator to a one hit KO rythmn game.
-- Demon Furiae being the hardest boss in the sky levels; especially if you don't know how to deal with her. Those swords man; they're a killer.
