I wouldn't use the word "hate," but the genre I care least for is racing. Other than the rare cart-racer, racing games don't seem to do anything for me. Crash Team Racing is probably the only racing game I'll ever want to play.

JRPGs. Find them utterly inferior in every way to quality western RPG's. Admittedly my dislike is strengthened by people constantly bringing up final fantasy games as some kind of be all and end all of RPG gaming and endlessly debating 'which was the best and why'.

MOBAS. I can 'sort of' appreciate the artwork and skill level required in something like Dota 2, but LoL and all of its clones getting popped out every other month are just horrid. Genre has already been flooded with terrible games all looking to cash in on the fad, much in the same way WoW clones have ruined the MMO genre.

Tower defense has earned my ire... They are broken and boring, its like the worst elements of an RTS mixed with a little boring FPS. On that note, Games that *Claim* to have RTS elements, your either an RTS or your not, its not a genre that mixes well, Brutal Legend is my whipping horse here, Attempted RTS ruined a perfectly bizarre but clever game.

Sick of listening to people drool all over Final fantasy, the plots make no sense and to come out as a dev and attack people for the fact that they find the game grinding considering you are being lead by the nose with no free will, turns my nose up too.

Would love to find the original artical but apparently its been deleted
http://blog.wirebot.com/2010/02/17/ffxiii-its-very-difficult-to-tell-a-compelling-story-in-an-open-world/

"We try not to listen to the critics too much. Most of the criticisms have come because the first half of the game is very linear," producer Yoshinori Kitase recently told gaming mag Xbox World 360. "But we've got a story to tell, and it's important the player can engage with the characters and the world they inhabit before letting them loose..."

Well there is a medium for you if you want a completely scripted piece of Art, its called a MOVIE, if I sit down to play a game I expect to make choices which will effect the story, to be able to interact with the world. If I'm not acting on the world WHY AM I HERE??? what is the difference between me playing the game and it running in demo mode?

Then to make the story so unintelligible and irrational on top of that?

Yep not interested and you have ruined any chance of me picking up not only your game but any other in your whole genre, especially when it means risking at BEST more than $50 to pick up (and that's for a REALLY old game, $100 if its new release)

Baseball games. There are other sports games I've enjoyed, NES Ice Hokey, Double Dribble, NFL Blitz on the N64... but never baseball.

I would say MOBAs, but that really only applies to the ones based on DotA. Delaying RTS attack animations by right clicking all over the place is one of the most idiotic game mechanics I've ever dealt with... but not all MOBAs are top-down traditional RTSes, so I can't really say I hate 'em all. Awesomenauts is a fun way to waste an hour or two once in awhile (though like all MOBAs, the extremely limited map selection makes the game boring for a few weeks after two hours of play... which is acceptable).

While I don't hate them, I will never willingly buy a sports game. Why should I buy a football or a basketball videogame if I can play it IRL?

You people spend so much energy 'hating' things, it comes as a surprise that you end up having any left to like anything.

Grim military shooters. Life's depressing enough, I'd rather be a lovable kid dragon gliding around collecting gems in my spare time thanks.

I really don't need my escapism to consist of, 'hey think your life is bad?! WELL GET A LOAD OF THIS SHIT HOLE, we're goin shooting there boy howdy, and we'll talk to people and see others who will most likely get killed off in really nasty and dramatic ways! Woo hoo! Life is hell!'

I don't hate the shooter genre. Far from it, one of my first influences was Doom and watching my buttfuck-head of a cousin playing it. (I'm a 'ewwcootiesgirl' I wasn't allowed to play it, so I just had to sit there quietly, but I was still very interested in the game, if not the person playing it)
And I can get behind the sci-fi parts of things like Halo and such.

But military shooters are like the bottom of the barrel depressing as far as I can see. Some might get a thrill out of them. I don't see the appeal, the heroics and comradery are lost on me. I know 99% of the players only care about the multiplayer, but usually I'm a single campaign kinda person before I let multiplayer give itself a go, and if I don't like the world aesthetic and background information, I'm not going to get into it, period.

JRPG's: I just can't stand everything about these games. The fact that I despise FF games with a passion probably helps.

Racing sims: I drive a car. I drive through corners doing 50+ km/h all the time. I often have to do 180 turns to switch directions. It always goes well and I have yet to have an accident.
So why the hell do I always spin out when doing that in a racing sim? Also, they're boring.

Kart racers: I don't even know why, but I dislike all of them.

I think more of a bored apathy on my part, hate is for people with too much energy. I LIKE, hell love plenty of things, but no one wants to hear about how good of a time you're having. You turn it into facebook. :|

And here's me enjoying a slice of cake next to my cuddly bear in my rainbow smiles room, LOOK AT MY LIFE AND BE JEALOUS. Also water my virtual farm, and be happy about it!

You'd be amazed how much energy some of us have... and how many of us have intellectually bankrupt day jobs. The hate doesn't reduce our energy, it redistributes the energy to fuel our imaginations.

One day, it shall help us destroy this world.

Racing games. never get the hang of them. when ever I'm not over staring I'm getting passed by by the slowest people ever when I'm supposed to have the best stats in the whole race...

First person games other than shooters. seriously I refuse to play a game that requires climbing, sword fighting and various other tasks in first person. shooters I can do though. (with the exception of dishonored)

MMORPGs.
Most of the gameplay devolves into a mindless protracted slapfight, and the grind sucks out what little joy there is left to be had.

I don't hate them, but racing games and sports games really aren't for me. The only racing game I actually sorta liked was Motor Storm, because I could be a dirt biker amidst big rigs trying to crush me... which was fucking awesome.

I don't hate but rather dislike a few genres.

MMORPG. While I love the concept of comradery and competition in a large world, almost every MMO title has failed that significantly for me. While the communities are sometimes worthwhile to hang on to the game, the "gameplay" itself it usually nothing short of a repetitive, boring grind.

Racing. I do enjoy a good Mario Kart or Crash Team Racing, but regular racing games are just plain dull. No power-ups, no fun characters, or fun tracks just hold the A button and drift. What a bore.

Fighting. This is mostly because I'm bad at them, REALLY bad. The games itself aren't really bad.

Sports. I don't like playing it in real life, why pay 50 extra bucks for it?

Puzzle. Like Bejeweled puzzle, not the puzzles in Zelda. It's not really a puzzle oddly enough, just some boring "casual" stuff with one concept and nothing else.

RTS. I'm bad at them or I'm good at them and it's boring. I don't really like watching people fight.

I like most genres.

The only type of game I've never liked are fighting games. Just never got into them, and I'm pretty bad as well. Although in uni I used to enjoy watching my friends play matches against each other.

While I have no hatred for any genre, I do have a severe problem with MMO's. They seem like RPG's without the story, and that to me seems like a decent waste.

I guess I should also put Racing on here because I've just never had an interest in any of them.

I would put RTS and Fighting games on here, but I just enjoy Homeworld and Guilty Gear too much.

Pretty much racing game for me, granted the only acceptable racing games I can played are non realistic themes like Mario Kart and F-Zero. I also don't like sport games either.

Are QTE-infested games a genre? If so, them.

^Also, this. Same way, don't hate them, but don't enjoy them at all (used to play FIFA '98, NFS around the start of it and titles around that time, but that was a long time ago, grew bored of them fast and never liked them much in the first place). Mind you, I mean typical racing games like NFS and such, stuff like Mario Kart is gold :D

Not much for RTSs either, but I don't hate them, I just suck at them.
