Real Time Strategy. While there may be 10 Supreme Commander 2's for every Total Annihilation, doesn't matter to me in the slightest.

Sit here hoping CoH2 and R2TW will bring back some interest from devs.

Sorry to disappoint but I guess I'm not every gamer because there is no such thing for me. I expect a game to do some things well for me to enjoy it. Otherwise I will just look for something better.

Stealth games and RPGs. There is just something there that hits the spot for me.

I think they are called "action adventure"?
I'm thinking of games like Zelda, Darksiders and Prince of Persia.
If the genre is called something else, feel free to correct me :D
No you're right. I always thought that Prince of Persia was a platformer though, well mostly.

Action Adventure is just the term given to games with "hard to classify" genres like Shadow of the Colossus.
Then we change it to "action-adventure-platformer" games :D
There's loads of jumping/walling/sliding/falling/etc around in Darksiders and Zelda too...

How can I pick just one? Brawlers, Hack & Slash, platformers, stealth, action/adventure, metroidvania. I don't want to narrow it down, it's like picking your favorite child!

Shooters.

They're so very very versatile and gratifying. From EDF to Fallout 3&NV to Bioshock to Deus Ex to Serious Sam to Battlefield to Good ol' DOOM. I love 'em.

Story driven RPGs, I LOVE games which immerse you in a rich story and yes I liked Mass effect and didn't even hate its ending that much
Ditto on all counts.

Also, I know saint's row the third isn't a genre, but unlike other games in that genre, I just adore that one. Never get tired of it.

Oh yeah, RTS. How could I forget my first true love? I've been playing red alert 2 since i was like 6. (never beat it though. Well, beat the soviet part. Couldn't beat the allies final mission). Recently re-installed Company of Heroes. The american campaign is so fun because the early missions have you defend against german counter-attacks, but you have time to set up before a small cutscene plays and they enter the field. If you put mines down beforehand where the people wind up when the game resumes, suddenly the game likes to remember that there were in fact mines there.
So much fun.

3D action/platformers. Admittedly quite a broad genre but I just love them. Examples:

-Ratchet and Clank
-Jak and Daxter
-Uncharted
-Tomb Raider
-Infamous
-Kingdom Hearts

I also love sandboxes and RPGs. Fucking love Elder Scrolls and Fallout (especially New Vegas).

Love good story driven games (Walking Dead, Last of Us).

I also have a deep passion for minecraft.

Fuck it I just love good games ok? :p

3D platformers, or anything with "okay, now where the fuck am I" elements. Rhythm/music games and stealth games I tend to have soft spots for as well.

Any kind of vertical flight shooter, such as Raiden, Touhou, Ikgaura etc.

Horizontal shooters work well too.

Those games got me kinda started on gaming. I will never forget them for that. The nostalgia, the memories from those games, its glorious.

Those games will permentaly hold a special, special place in my heart, forever. Plus, how hard is it to muck up a vertical flight game?

do Shin Megami Tensei games count as a 'genre'? seriously they have their own weird little niche in JRPGs that i'm not sure i want associating with things like FF7...

but if not, then JRPGs... haven't found any lately that made me all that happy, aside from SMT games, good? yea, great? *sigh* no Xenogears :.( its really the story for me, but most nowadays are all about 'lets make it as flashy as possible' and seem to totally forget the point that made them great... and not a lot i've seen other then ones in their own fletched out categories: Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, or, yep, Shin Megami Tensei...

still would rather go with SMT as a genre, they haven't let me down even if Devil Summoner 2 was kinda wonky... that's still better then a lot of other things i've been playing... i miss my PS2 now...

The lost space flight sim. Hell, any flight sim.

Rocking and Rolling in those pixelated death birds in Wing Commander and making the Empire sit down and shut the fuck up in X-Wing.

I even enjoyed Hawx....
