Oh man Reign of fire.

The dragon level where you have to rescue other dragons of a train with dead precision and then torch the train before it goes into a tunnel whilst being shot at from like A MILLION turrets!

THE TRAIN WOULD JUST NOT DIEEE!

I cant remember the name, but its the final level of Dynasty Warriors 3(I think) if you played for the Red team with someone like Zhou Yun. It was a giant castle with stupid traps everywhere, tons of crossbowman who could shoot you before you could see them, enemy NPCs who had WAY too much health and could deal out way too much damage. So frustrating and I have no idea why I continued to try and beat it. It wasn't that great of a game
if memory serves right i think your talking about he-fei castle(wu side)
man i love the DW series

HA HA, that reminds me of that time I thought I tranquilized the informant, when in reality I had shot him in the spine.

That's right! And maybe I was a little harsh in my remembrance. It did have its moments and I did love slaughtering hundreds of Chinamen on a whim. Sometimes I could only play it for so long before I had to step away.

There was some mission (probably early on) in Splinter Cell: Conviction where you have to break into this mansion and promptly give some guy a frontal lobotomy with your bullets.

I don't know if it was just because I failed massively at this game, or it was the 'Realistic' difficulty fucking me over, but it seemed that every time I tried to get through this level in a sneaky fashion, the game would spawn an enemy right behind me without me noticing what it was doing. Either that or shooting a light out would alert all the guards in the area or my exact location, aswell as spawn 3 new ones.

On the same game: you're running down a corridor, when suddenly these massive doors on the other end of a room open, flooding the area with light. 3 deaths later, I noticed there was a pipe overhanging the room. After being shot to shit twice while attempting to get to the pipe, I finally succeeded...only to find the guards were mysteriously able to see me when I was hanging above them, hidden in the shadows of the ceiling.

And again on Conviction: the war level. Yeah, that was some great creative thinking. "this is a stealth game, so let's arbitrarily force the player into a war shooter for a mission!". Seriously, Conviction's UI doesn't work for combat, especially not when on Realistic difficulty you die with 3 shots or if someone throws a grenade within 10 feet of you. Putting a stealth character, in a stealth game, into a war-based level with an un-silenced machine gun is about as much use as putting an oil rig in a children's play pool. The pool doesn't have enough depth or material for the oil rig to work in efficiently.

After the war level annoyance I decided to stop playing.

Wow that game had a lot of annoyances.

If we are talking GTA: San Andreas then Zero's Supply Line mission on the PS2 version takes the cake for me.

I currently hate the Vietnam level in Black Ops. There's this section, where you are on top of a hit, above a trench, and a never-ending stream of Vietnamese troops keep pouring into the trench. You are directed to move down the hit, and to go into the trench, while under a constant stream of fire from Vietnamese troops. This wouldn't be so bad if your teammates ever helped you out, killed a couple of guys, maybe laid down some covering fire, used themselves as human shields to draw enemy fire, ANYTHING, but instead they just make you do all the work on your own.
Is that the bit which starts with Woods talking to a bunch of marines on top of a hill?

The Pit Of Pain 'fight' in the arena side-quests in Jade Empire. Let us just say it is accurately named. (also doesn't help that if you try and use focus mode, the rate of projectiles and their travel-speed dramatically increases just to spite you).

The quadriped colossi in Shadow of the Colossus. They kept getting me into corners and attacking me, the first one was pathetically weak and it took a while to kill me(since they knocked me down every time and tackled again once I got up) and the second one was just a horrible puzzle. I don't mind puzzles in boss fights, but god, that was just a horrible, horrible puzzle.

Bad Girl from No More Heroes, It took me a full 24 hours, not at once, to beat her.

Damn her fake tears and my chivalry.

Outskirts on Legendary in Halo 2. Three words: Jackal Snipers. Fuck.
Oh dear god. Why must you remind me of that? I still think that the developers got paid by the Jackal on that part.

OT: I loathe One Shot One Kill from CoD 4. I never did beat it on Veteran.
After months of practise I managed to complete the entire COD4 single player on Veteran. And then spent weeks trying to complete Mile High Club. And then deleted my COD4 dir to make room for The Orange Box.

I remember taking two months to complete Luigi's Purple Coins in Super Mario Galaxy.

Currently I'm having the shits trying to finish Sanctuary in Cave Story. 7 months and I've only got up to the 2nd of 6 boss fights.
