Right, so I've had this idea kicking around in my head for a while now but never really got around to posting it until now. This thread is about...

That one mistake people make that really irritates you. It could be a simple spelling error that no one seems to realise they are making. That one where someone manages to completely mangle your name. Or perhaps something else you notice people doing leaving you irritated.

This thread is for people who just want to let off some steam about those little everyday mistakes. To post them here, please try and have them being mistakes that you can't call someone out on without appearing like a jerk but is something you see a lot.

Mine are both grammar (or maybe spelling?) related and are pretty much Internet based. People who type "rouge" when they mean "rogue" and "defiantly" when they mean "definitely". It pisses me off to no end and makes me want to grab a dictionary, reach through their computer screens and slam their faces into the respective pages.

So, any others?

Just the classics for me; There, Their and They're and You're and Your

Though, I do like to make fun of all the red makeup characters running around in D&D.

Not judging but why is that? in my eyes it's such a small thing, not even worth fretting over.

For myself, that one little thing is being dismissed or not taken seriously.
On an everyday situation I can let it go but during work hours something like that can make me really angry.

After my time on the EU West (Read: Best) League server, these people drive me insane.

"OMG SURR @ 20 WE LOOSE THIS GAME. FEED MID LOOSE US THIS GAME"

Fuck that. No.No.No, these people need to be rounded up and removed from the server until they understand language.

I could care less about that oft-used phrase, but that would require effort. So I won't bother.

OT: When I see people who confuse the there/their/they're or too/to/two.

Also, when grading papers especially, if you find that moment when someone has obviously thought that spellchecker was their friend. The word is spelled correctly, but it obviously isn't the right word.

For the record, when I type, sometimes I get fumble-fingered and the words do not come out as my brain intended. My worst, and most consistent, error seems to be typing "form" when I am trying to type "from". Spellchecker merely sits back and laughs at me, never mentioning my mistake since my erroneous word is spelled correctly.

Nobody on TVtropes, and I mean NOBODY except me (and possibly FastEddie), know how to use bullet points correctly. Absolutely nobody.

Whenever someone calls a previous entry in a series a prequel. Don't know why it annoys me, but it does.

Every time you type 'alot', an innocent Alot dies horribly.

Think of the poor Alot.

Care about Alot.

Because only you can save Alot.

Really, this thread is just going to turn into people ribbing off of things other people say, as it already has to some extent.

People I've known for years calling me by my younger brother's name. It wouldn't be that bad but we don't even look much alike for there to be any mistake. He's got long curly light hair and I've got short dark hair, how hard can it be?

To be fair, my mum goes through all the people in the family before she gets to mine... If it's family/family friends that do it, I wouldn't be surprised.

OT: What gets me is when say, I write a comment on a friends FB status and one of their friends addresses me but misspells my name.
IT'S RIGHT THERE. NEXT TO MY PICTURE. COPY PASTA IF YOU HAVE TO!
Emiilliie, Emillie, Emile, Emly IS NOT MY NAME! *angry face*

Pretty much everything that isn't Standard English...I'm fine with the odd mistake here and there but I'm a bit of a language fascist if it's repeated.

The two that bug me are "defiantly" when they mean "definitely", and "I could care less" when they mean "I couldn't care less". If you say that you "could care less", you're probably hurting your own argument.

Most of the stuff mentioned doesn't really bother me. Maybe its because I don't tattoo the swastika of spelling on my forehead, I just don't really care if people have bad grammar or spelling because I do too. Thank god for auto correct or I'd probably have to walk the plank of the internet. Doesn't it just seem stuck up that this thread even exists? Just seems like a big jack off party of OH I HAVE BETTER SPELLING AND GRAMMAR THEN YOU DO THEREFORE I AM ULTIMATELY BETTER THEN YOU IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. LET ME SHOVE IT IN YOUR FACE TO MAKE MYSELF FEEL BETTER. Just saying...

I know I shouldn't get angry and generally I don't. The problem is for me they are small irritants and I see them a lot. So, I end up having to hold back a grammar nazi response because someone forgot to check they were using the right word

I used to hate it when teachers got my name wrong. My name is Noah, but I would often be called Nathan instead. Aside from starting with the letter "N", the names aren't very similar, so it baffled me that so many teachers got it wrong. Thankfully, my high school teachers actually get it right.

This bothers me as well. I can't really put my finger on why it annoys me either, but it still does.

Lastly, I hate it when my classmates make the unbelievably stupid mistake of plagiarizing their papers. Moral issues aside, they don't even do it well. So many people in my class got caught because they left things in from the article they copy-and-pasted that were dead giveaways, such as "citation needed", or "continued on page eight" (when the paper they turned in didn't even have eight pages). Not only that, but they plagiarized from the sources that they cited. They basically worked from a cheat-sheet, and then handed the teacher said cheat-sheet. Sweet spider-monkey Jesus, if you're going to do something morally reprehensible, at least give enough of a damn to do it well.

You...
Must. Repress. Anger.

EDIT: In hindsight, it was inevitable someone would do that.

Maybe there was a kid called Nathan that looked exactly like you and they called him Noah.

You've got it easy, sometimes my own mother calls me by our DOG's name. Her age is showing.

OT: Nothing really.

The entirety of the time talking on the internet when I was younger. I went back and looked at some of the e-mails I typed out, and I am just ashamed of it now. Ashamed.

I find it incredibly irritating when somebody calls a spin-off a sequel, there's other things too but it's been highlighted in this thread already several times.
