Oh jeez... Let me count the ways.

Pokemon - My first big "I give up" moment. I was an obsessive Pokemaniac from ages 13 to 15. The obsession petered out as I got close to 16, but when I started to see the previews for Ruby/Sapphire and I realized that they were going to keep making new creatures and that the character designs were going to have to get more and more weird to keep up that momentum, I was like "yeah...I'm out..." I still enjoy the original generation. I've sunk dozens of hours into FireRed as a fun/nostalgia trip, but past Gold/Silver, I just can't bring myself to care.

I've brought this up on another thread and got jumped by newer-gen Pokemon defenders, so let me say this: I'm not AGAINST any of the creatures or games from Gen 3 forward. I haven't even played them, so I can't and won't judge them. I just don't care about them. I'm indifferent.

Dragon Ball Z - My newer obsession, from ages 16-20. I lost interest after I discovered that there is a lot of far superior anime out there. I still have my CCG cards and happily play the odd game with an old friend of mine, and I still have an attachment to the show in a nostaglic/campy sense, but going back to watch some of my old DBZ DVDs really cemented for me that I had outgrown it.

Final Fantasy - This one is borderline. I was a hardcore Final Fantasy devotee from ages 16-24. I've played all the (non-MMO) main-series games from start to finish as well as a number of the spin-offs, and I never felt that the series had jumped the shark. Then, similar to the DBZ situation, I started playing Western RPGs and games from non-RPG genres and realized that there were better fish in the sea. When Final Fantasy XIII landed, that was what put me on the edge. I don't think that it is as bad as many of its detractors believe; it was just a huge disappointment compared to the build-up, it had some serious design flaws (and I'm not even talking about the linearity, because I didn't mind that!) and most of all it didn't live up to its potential, especially where the story is concerned. Final Fantasy Versus XIII is Squeenix last chance to prove to me that they haven't lost it completely. If FFVersusXIII is bad, or never comes out, I'm done.

I remember trying to watch Shaman King at one point. I gave up around episode 20. It seemed that every single villain until that point ended up joining them... I just wanted one villain to die. Any villain - I didn't care who. Eventually it got to a part that was really awesome and it seemed nothing but fitting for a massive fight resulting in a villains death... would you believe they end up having dinner!? 0.0

That when I thought "right, f*ck it - if all these rehabilitated villains turned on the good guys, they'd friggin deserve it!" I may have kept on watching if I found out that did happen - it would be a damn lot more interesting.

I started writing a long rant in this thread, but then I realized that it was a bunch of angry wording that no one else would really care about and comment on in a way beyond "Yeah, I get a similar feeling" or "nu uh."

Maybe it's time to give up on forums in general. :(

60-odd hours into Dragon Age: Origins. My PS3 gets the yellow light of death and I lose my save (I'm pretty sure the saves for that game were copy-protected, and I didn't have any cloud to save them to at the time). I am stubborn and will persevere with almost everything I start, but I have NEVER gone back to Dragon Age since that.

I can't say I have ever given up on anything, but that is more because I am completely insane. When I encounter a retarded difficulty spike in a game, I don't ever cut my losses. I try and try and try again. This has led to me spending hours at a time trying to overcome some sort of menial task.

Bah! I've been saying that for the past 20 years. *shakes stick at the young whippersnapper*

So actually, yeah, Nyall fucking Stormcaller. Came out in about 1993 iirc. WTF is this bullshit? I said to myself. Turning the Dark Angels into a bunch of Native Americans was weak enough, but now the space wolves have fucking viking shamans? Ghazghkull and Yarrick I could just about stomach, being the first I could always pretend they were a one off but this was just wretched. Bollocks. Bollocks to it all I said. Except Epic. Epic was at least small enough scale to not look too retarded.

Also resident evil 4. The second that squeaky midget popped up I said fuck this, I'm outta here and have never had the urge to pick up a resident evil game again.

A lot of arguments.
Sometimes it was like talking to a brick wall, you just knew you were in for a retarded "argument" (if it could even qualify) when your opponent starts making personal jabs like your mum jokes, calling you a retard, and all that jazz, instead of reasons as to why they are correct.
I one time had a argument where someone said the connotation of a word changed due to artists being sad. I like to think the guy just didn't know what I was talking about. Because that's like saying a hair brush is something for cooking bread, because my heater runs on gas. Maybe I didn't explain my point well, but to say that I don't think the guy had a clear grasp of what the word "connotation" means. And that is what I am getting at. When people refuse what I word means in an argument is when I go "fuck it."
I had a similar argument with someone stemming from the definition of the word 'atheist', as I classified myself as one (this was back before I became a Taoist) and was duly offended at him spamming simultaneously anti-religious and anti-atheist bullshit as though he's found some magical point of understanding and was a superior individual to us all.

Anyway, he was basically of the opinion that if I was an atheist, not only did I hold disbelief of God, but that I also was of the opinion that there could be nothing out in the universe more complex than humans or anything found on earth and was narrow minded and arrogant for taking the atheistic view of science.

I think I "slightly" gave up watching the most recent My Little Pony episodes.
Sure, when i start waching again, I won't stop until i SEE THEM ALL [the curse of Pony Virus to our veins people...].
I really love the shoe and i don't hate it, but I think I reach a point I don't want to bother...
But no hate, cause I even did fan-artworks for the show and I don't have regrets.
I know the feeling, though I've stayed up to date on the newest season and I likely will throughout the series's run.

Pff, where to start. To save LOTS of time I'll do a list:

Steam- After I realised it had become a monopoly. I don't like monopolies that limit user choice, it's wrong.
I'm legitimately curious as to how you arrived at the conclusion that Steam "limits user choice."

Personally:
Shortly after the time the game opened up and let you explore Constantinople, I ventured into some underground mission (I think it was an Assassin tomb) where the objective was to sneak past a bunch of guards. However, this being Revelations, I was carrying around with me enough bullets and explosives to arm a third world revolution. I tried sneaking around and stuff, but once I ended up just perching in the rafters shooting all the guards, who were apparently too deaf to hear a series of massive percussions in an enclosed underground space. It was at that point that I realized the dev team for Revelations really had no idea what they were doing.

To a greater degree, it was when I realized that the AC franchise was officially going downhill.

As I'm seeing quite a lot, the Bounto arc after they rescued Rukia was what caused a lot of people to get fed up with Bleach, and I'm no exception. I just got to episode 100 or so and I realized I was wondering what the point was.

When I couldn't figure out what the point was, it occurred to me that something was very wrong.

I played Skyrim for about thirty hours, enjoying it quite thoroughly, before I just got to the point where the shitty programming (Seriously, Bethesda? How do you make something so unstable it CRASHES a PS3?), nonexistent writing, three voice actors, clunky combat, furiously anti-player lore, horrible button layout, and general piss-poor design decisions became all too apparent.

TV, unless someone else turns something decent on I really have no interest at most shows currently airing. I forget what stopped airing.

Capcom: all their Megaman hate and callous moves, they've promised to improve but I don't have high hopes.

Ninja Theory: their games were decent, mindless, action-types games with heavy, crappy stories, but then DmC came out.

Steam: came close with controllers only working some of the time and then I got Bioshock without knowing about the issue. I haven't completely given up, but I am close.

Adding some to the one I posted already:

- The Dune series after Children of Dune the series dunked itself in an even more hefty pool of esoterics. Too much for my taste.

- The moment I saw the Rebel Flagship for the first time in FTL was the moment I said "Nope. Nevermind."

- After the third bullshit episode of Revolution I gave up on that show. Good gods do the characters suck.

- I gave up on elaborate discussions on the internet a few years ago. After doing craptons of research and whatnot for certain arguments, like convincing a conspiracy theorist the moon landings were real (which I did convince him of) I just reflected, compared the benefits against the insane amounts of effort involved and just thought "Fuck this."

The thing with drawing is that you need to go to the basics and go slow. I say take a break for a bit, then try drawing something small at first (for example, an apple) then you go into bigger and bigger projects. Oh, and study anatomy, that will help your drawing skills by a ton, specially if you are aiming to draw people. It'll take time, but if you're patient, it'll be worth it.
Yeah patience, sadly, isn't a virtue of mine. But that's one of my problems as well; I have no idea what the basics are and what sort of exercises I can do. Or how I can study anatomy. I mean, I can look at a skeleton and remember every bone but for some reason I doubt that that's what meant with studying anatomy for the sake of drawing. Frankly I just have no idea what to do.

I stopped Dedicated TV watching. The only thing I used to look forward to watching on TV was Xplay but with Directv and all. Then I got into watching a few actual shows but I DVR them so I don't think it counts.

I gave up on most Multiplayer games after brief sessions when I realized I just wasn't enjoying myself.

Pokemon: I turned 8 and outgrew it.
Television: Just sort of got replaced by Hulu.
Wii: Just sort of stopped caring.
PC gaming: My computer exploded, and after being fixed, stopped working a month later.

Assassin's Creed. Seriously? Regenerating health, a plot that's getting nowhere fast, and the combat. Ugh, I mean I remember when taking on a couple blokes was a challenge but now I can mow down an entire platoon of Redcoats in a minute. Naval Combat, really? It's Assassin's Creed! If they make combat challenging again, keep on giving us a strong multiplayer and make the core engagement assassinations, then I'll have hope.

Possibly the Final fantasy series. I vividly remember being sick and my dad getting me Final fantasy IX to cheer me up, and I played the hell out of that game, I still play it at least once a year, I bought Final fantasy VIII shortly after I initially completed Final fantasy IX and enjoyed that immensely as well. I was psyched to hear that there was a Final fantasy on the PS2 but when I finally played Final fantasy X at a friend's house well... disappointed doesn't quite cover it. I hated Tidus and Wakka, both served to royally get on my nerves, and I didn't enjoy the story, I have tried to play Final fantasies X-2, XII and XIII and I haven't enjoyed any of them. It just doesn't have the same magic as the Nintendo/PSOne era games. I might be looking through the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia, but I just don't enjoy the series any more.

And,
explaining that homosexuals are homosexually wrong.

I get it, you're pro-homo, and I'm all for equality, but still, 2 of the same gender = no baby, which is the whole point of sex.

1. If you think that homosexuality is somehow less acceptable - to wit: being unequal - than heterosexuality by virtue of being unable to produce children - to wit: being homosexual - then you aren't for equality.
2. The world has seven billion people and pretty much every part of it is suffering from overpopulation. Having children isn't an inherently good thing.
3. Having babies is the whole point of sex? So, how do you stand in relation to sterile people? Artificial insemination?

The only thing that really sticks out in my mind, pathetically enough, is El Goonish Shive, that stupid fucking webcomic. Around the point when the plot was nothing but random furry rule 63 up the wazoo with no advancement whatsoever, I just decided to say "Fuck it," closed the tab, and deleted it from my bookmarks. It looked like it got better later on, but I could not wade through 3 or 4 years of bullshit to get there.

Read the Gantz manga recently. It was good for the first 70 or so chapters, then it went down the toilet. Skipped to chapter 170 or something. Suddenly it seemed to be back on track with surprisingly heartfelt elements.

Until I saw a little kid get beaten to death. That crossed the line. I can stand ridiculous amouns of gore, despicable and stupid characters, gratuituous and pointless nudity, even a plot that clearly is going nowhere. But not that level of vileness. Fuck that series and all its offspring.

I stopped watching TV years ago, around the time the national TV became digital, and it was a choice between TV and a DVD player. Thank God my dad was strict on that stuff.

Tried watching the Berserk anime series, which I had seen getting a lot of praise. Wasn't going well, but the moment I realized the background art was about sketch quality and not even properly colored I gave up. I'd read it all already in the manga, and much better done in every way.

When has the AC combat ever been hard? Even in 1 you just counter all day and you can never die. It's not really any different to the newest ones.
