So, it's a common occurrence (for me, at least) to hear a song, wonder who it's by, then listen to an album of theirs, and purchase said album. So, Escapists, what are some songs that originally got you hooked on bands you now like when you first heard them?

Please, if you're including youtube embeds, put them in spoilers to avoid making it take forever to load the entire page.

So, here are a few ones that started me off with some bands!

"Lost On Yer Merry Way" by Grandaddy. It didn't just get me into the band, it got me into music period. It's the first song I learned to play on guitar too, being relativly simple yet beautiful.

(I know it's not a great quality video but its the only non live video I could find)

I heard this song through Death proof (it plays during the ending and credits).

I heard a couple of songs she had made, and got hooked after hearing "Caribou".

Fortunate Son got me hooked on Creedence Clearwater Revival. "Hooked" for me means "I have about nine of their songs on iTunes." since I'm very picky.

No I didn't hear this in BFBC2. :s

My Curse got me into liking Killswitch Engage and just metal in general, and recently I've taken a liking to Seether after hearing Fake It play on Pandora.

"Back in Black" by AC/DC got me into rock and AC/DC. Heard it in the intro for Iron Man. Bought three of their CD's so Far.

I think it was Feel Good Inc. that really got me into music and The Gorillaz. I wasn't really into any bands before that.

"Neon" by Anthony Seeha:

A link for those who don't find the video to be working: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViLBwEP0_v8

I first heard the song on a "Song-cast"[footnote]A podcast, but instead of people talking it's just songs and a person who introduces them.[/footnote] of a website that I visit often. I found the song to be absolutely amazing, so I checked out some of his other stuff and, lo and behold, it was also absolutely amazing. He's an artist who makes all of his songs on KORG DS10+, a synthesizer stuffed into a Nintendo DS cartridge. Most of his music has a sort of "Organic Electronic" feel to it, which is a style that I've never heard outside of what he does.

LoveFuryPassionEnergy by Boy Hits Car. It is by far still my favorite song, and band, 8 years later. I got to see them live in July and it was, well, epic, for lack of a better word.

This one [http://brentalfloss.bandcamp.com/track/mega-man-3-with-lyrics-title-theme] was the first one I listened to after I got to that Bandcamp page (through a long series of coincidences and blind luck). I'm now a huge brentalfan, and it even got me into making my own music, which turned me into a much more confident person, which had several IRL benefits.

I don't feel like going into detail, partly because I've made this post before, but it changed my life in a very good way.

Two years ago, my friend showed me this song. I thought it was "eh" at first, being a stupid freshman and not knowing anything about punk music. After getting into the punk scene a bit, and learning that oh my god, that same friend has a band, and they're playing with the Cobra Skulls in a couple of weeks! So I went home, listened to the song again, LOVED it, looked up some more of their music, and was hooked.

They're still one of my favorite punk bands ever, and that show ended up being one of the most fun nights of my life.
