That Space Janitors ad

Now.. I'm not sure if I am alone in this but the past week or so I have been getting really frustrated with having to watch the "Space Janitors" ad over and over and over every time I want to watch any video on here.

I love watching ZP, Escape to the movies, Jimquisition, The Big Picture,.. but why do I have to watch that ad every single time?

I will say that I like the Space Janitors episodes so far. They are quite entertaining. But I don't see the point in forcing that ad infront of every single video.

Thoughts? Or am I just overreacting?

I find them annoying, yes. It's not so bad when you are going to watch a 6 minute feature video but it's stupid when you're forced to sit through an entire 30 second Space Janitors ad before watching a trailer that itself is only 90 seconds long. I can understand The Escapist needing to advertise and all that but they should either make better choices on where to place their video ads or, at the least, provide the option to click through the ad after 5 seconds like you can on Youtube.

they should make the adds skip able, why? because it forces them to make better adds and doesn't force em to watch an advert i have to interest in and have watched 10 times before that day alone

I know that but I don't see why every user of this website should HAVE to be in that club to avoid being spammed with the same 30 second ad. I'm not saying there shouldn't be ads, I understand the need for them. I'm just saying maybe not on every video. Or indeed a skip after x amount of seconds option like Youtube provides.

What I hate, not on here really, is when there is a video ad that auto-plays with the sound on. Then I have to go through all of my tabs just to find the fucking thing so I can mute it, that pisses me off more than any 30 second ad

Usually I just mute the sound of the website and leave it running alt-tabbed for 30 seconds when I encounter such a thing (Mainly Nostalgia critic and such) On Escapist im in the Publisher Club so its not a big deal here.

No, I haven't felt bothered by ads at all lately. I've not even noticed that there are ads here either. Ever since I joined publisher's club these things stopped occurring.

Unless you randomly lose your Pub Club status like I did. I only re-subbed about 20 days ago, but yesterday I suddenly was seeing ads again. I'm marked as a standard member in my profile.

So, the ads are extra annoying to me, because I paid to have them removed... When I was a free member, the ads didn't bother me. I was fine with watching some in exchange for free stuff. The full page wrapper ads sometimes bothered me a little because I accidentally clicked on them all the time.

Used the support contact form yesterday, no response yet.

I don't get what the Escapist gets out of advertising for it's own content on it's own site. Like obviously the viewers are already here so it doesn't get them any additional hits, and do they pay themselves for the advertising?

I'm more upset with the Side ads that Cover the Entire length of the page, even though it turns into just a black bar. I keep clicking them whenever I switch tabs, and its really starting to irk me.

But yeah, it's annoying when the exact same ad plays before every video.

"Premium Member" is a little generic. You could personalize it like other pubclubbers have done.

Yes, it's annoying as fuck. I've actually stopped watching most of the videos. If I wanna see the trailers, I'll go to YouTube and search for them, even if they're just a click away from me here. I've even stopped watching ZP and rarely go near ETTM, unless it's something I'm really interested in.

Way to go Escapist, you're giving EA's marketing department a run for their money in a race of incompetence, using the ads for one show to lower the amount of viewers across the board. Not to mention, if I ever had the intention of giving that show a try (which I actually wanted to do when I just saw a picture of the ad around), I'm not going anywhere near something you feel you need to market that aggressively.

Yeah, I remembered that rule so I just wanted to see if people had similar or different opinions, and what those are.

Financially I'm at an all-time low so being in the publishers club is at the moment no option. And yes, putting up with ads is something free users will have to do. I accept that. But does it have to be the same one every single time? That is merely my point, if I had any at all.

I have resorted to what others have mentioned; i.e. muting the video for 30 seconds and alt+tabbing out. I suppose I will get by this way 'till I can sub ^^

To everyone "gently reminding" others that the Pub Club exists: Yeah, we know.

I have absolutely no issue with the Escapist advertising. I actually don't mind the side bar ads at all and I know they're one of the most negatively commented on ad types the site makes use of. My problem is that you are forced to sit through an entire 30 second trailer for Space Janitors before you watch any video on the site, every time you want to watch the video. I wouldn't mind if it was random or on, say, every 5th video viewed. I wouldn't mind if it was before every video over, say, 4 minutes long. But it's dumb when I have to watch a 30 second ad for something before I get to watch my 60 second long requested video.

The way it's currently being done is making the site a pain to use for video content. It's got nothing to do with Space Janitors itself (haven't watched it, think it looks beyond stupid, but I'd feel the same if it was for the Made For StriderShinryu show). It's got nothing to do with having to do it that way as The Escapist has done random ad seeing before and sites like Youtube allow things like click through. It's actually also got little to do with even advertising for the site as it's just advertising one of the sites own videos and not a product from an outside source.

What it is, is a pain in the butt and joining the Pub Club should be about offering attractive options to encourage subscription, not being something you need to pay for just to make the site actually pleasant to visit.

They'd probably do that, but they've established that this site is in... uhm... dire need of money. It's fully possible that they've climbed out of the hole and are just being douches about it now, but guess which one is more likely.

Less ads = less money = (probably) dead website. When (if not already the case) they climb out of the money hole, the ads will lessen.

Alternatively, you can speed the process and reap the benefits now by joining the Pub Club.
