I'm sorry if the title isn't explanatory what I mean is what are some of the times where you where in a very difficult fight, you keep fighting but you're not sure you are going to make it and somehow you miss the fatal blow and the fight concludes. An example of this for me was when I was playing Dragon Age 2 and I apparently interrupted this 'managing anger problems for mages and random angry dudes' and they proceeded to attack me. This was a cavern that was laden with trappeed and many times I was caught in them, quickly losing health. I was failing, I had killed most of the mages and the angry dudes and they're was only one left;but my companions were unconscious and I was not long from failing the game. until the mage I was fighting teleported onto a trap pannel and was doused in flames. I (Hawke) just made it. What times did you just make it?

Recently playing UMVC3 with an escapist friend WykydTron . We were on our last characters , i was in x-factor with a pixel of health and he was above 50% . We were full screen apart . I was playing rocket racooon and he was dead pool . Everytime i tried to teleport behind him , i got hit by his projectile attack trigger happy . One more hit and i was dead . Wykyd could taste the victory . He did trigger happy again , expecting it to kill , and had it hit ,it would have , but i went into my level 3 . Which is near instand and hit's anyone on the ground. Upon seeing me activatee my level 3 he activated his , but it didn't work , mine still hit .But! He had too much health ! It didn't kill him! When my level 3 animation was over , there is a tiny window of opportunity where the opponent is falling to the ground . I took that opportunity to use my level 1 super rock n roll. Surprisingly i timed it properly , and my level 3 combo'd into my level 1 for the kill .

A few moment's a go he could practically taste his victory , now i could taste his rage .

Well excuse Capcom for not making RR's level 3 a physical attack. I so countered that shit...

OT: Every BlazBlue match ever. I don't win often at all but even when I do I have a serious problem that I cannot seem to actually FINISH someone no matter how well i've been doing. I will get them to around a quarter health and even if i'm full I will just never get another clean hit to win and eventually lose. It's really weird.

We will both end up being on one hit and it's just a matter of clutch supers and/or low hits. Personal favourite is throwing out Wisdom of the Divines at a Carl just rushing at me pressing buttons. I have no idea which supers have long, not invincible start up frames or unblockable stuff but that comes out reasonably fast and I don't think i've been knocked out of it. Weirdly Makoto's Big Bang Smash is instant (sort of) even though it's a charge move.

Oh and I escaped an entire enemy team chasing me when I played Trundle in LoL yesterday. SO FUNNY. I was in that 3AM mindset where everything is funny and I was spamming /laugh ALL GAME. From minute one to minute 50. It never stopped. Apparently it genuinely made Rookie pissed off by it roundabout minute 45. Oops :3

It got close when their Rengar used his ult to chase when it looked like I was genuinely going to get away. I just ulted him for the health and resists and kept on trolling.

Huge speed boost and full team slow with Pillar of Trolling. NOPE!

Why are they changing Trundle's character so drastically again? That laugh is comedy gold.

So many times in Just Cause 2 during the flying races. Pitching onto a wingtip through a narrow gap between buildings and flying under stupidly low bridges has been some of the most tense gameplay I've had recently.

I finished the final boss battle in Lunar: Silver Star Story with one character (Jess, the white mage) with 3 remaining hit points and no remaining magic or healing/mana replenishment items.

I don't think I've played a game that was as edge-of-the-seat-close-to-death as the first Lunar. The three fights just before the final fight all seemed just as tense.

Call it an old example, but practically every Metroid Prime fight with Meta Ridley on hard mode (the second last boss of the game) ended either like this, or with him beating you on a pixel of his health. On his last 10% or so he starts using this insanely fast rush attack with almost no pause in between attacks for you to prepare another dodge, and once he's done that about 5 times you get an opportunity to take a few shots back. Inevitably this ends with either you or him on practically zero health and the other one dead.

Admittedly I was probably about 10 or 11 last time I played it like that, but still, I must have done that fight about 3 or 4 times and every one was a nail biter.

Skyrim, going after a bandit leader who I was not levelled to handle. I died a couple of times, and at best, I could kill his men before he got me. In the end, the strategy I was working with was to use the freeze shout when they were all bundled together so I could take his mooks one at a time. This was working, but then the leader was free and set about axing me some questions.

Fus Ro Dah, I replied.

He got launched back, and I winced. Wrong shout, and now I was probably going to die. I waited, sword in hand. Waited. Nothing was happening. I equipped a torch, and went to see what had happened. This far too powerful bandit leader had broken his back on some sort of wooden bollard, and died.

FTL, the final boss, was out of rockets so all I had to chip away at his shield was a basic laser and one of those 3 burst lasers. I had men on board, totally trashed the systems, but that super attack kept coming. All I could do was time my cloaking and pray. And then I got the bastard! With only TWO PIPS of hull left over!! Had to put a hand on my knee to stop my leg shaking.

Ridiculous moment yesterday with Xenoblade's final boss. In case you didn't know, a huge game mechanic in Xenoblade is getting forewarning of powerful enemy attacks and given a countdown in which to alter the outcome. Anyway, the boss had delivered a fatal blow to one party member, leaving the other two in critical condition and suffering topple (basically a stun that lasts like 15-20 seconds). At which point, I get a premonition of what would be his last attack, an AoE that wasn't particularly powerful, but more than enough to kill us in our weakened state. (For the record, I had taken off about 80 percent of the boss's health by this point.) With absolutely no way to stop it due to topple, I just select my healing move and mash the A button, hoping beyond hope that topple would wear off before the attack hit. And as the boss started winding up his attack animation, it did. His attack failed to kill the party leader, who promptly resurrected his party members and the fight went on with me eventually victorious.

Most of the battles I fight in Etrian Odyssey are these. Unless I've outleveled the dungeon I'm currently in, I'm always staring potential death in the face. I just fought the first Boss an hour ago. A lot of the skills I used against it were contingent upon luck in order to be useful (status effect attacks). Every time the Boss was blinded or stunned or crippled I had to give a sigh of relief.

There are only a few handheld games that make you feel like you're living dangerously and this is one of them.

I'm replaying Bloodlines again atm, so I barely managed to survive the fight with brother Kanker. I hate that guy... I hate him with my whole soul.
He almost got me, but my clever use of Presence saved my skin (by clever I mean, turn it on). And it was all the more funnier because I went back, and in the streets I started to frenzy, and jumped on a bum promptly draining him of his blood. And since I play Ventrue now, you can vomit if you drink from lowlifes. Well, guess who has stinky shoes now?

I was playing the "No Mercy" campaign on Left 4 Dead 2 and during the finale all my AI companions were either dead or dying when the chopper showed up. I used the last adrenaline shot to sprint towards the chopper. A tank caught up to me and punches me through the air, where I promptly landed safely inside the chopper with about 10 health left and proceeded to GTFO. I had thought for sure I was going to sail right off the edge of the building.

In the the final mission of the Cybran campaign in Supreme Commander, you have to take down an Aeon CZAR before it destorys a biulding that we want to capture. I took it down literally seconds before it floated into range.

In fallout new vegas while at the second floor of the Bison_Steve_Hotel [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Bison_Steve_Hotel] while at an early level.

I was using the FWE-esque preset from Project Nevada - Extra Options [http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/47285] slightly modified. To put it simply you can take just about as many bullets as your enemy can and light armor does a crappy job at being protective. I ended up almost dead with at least an arm crippled and you can't aim for shit with a crippled arm, even at point blank range. I managed to kill the last enemy one hit away from being killed and winning that fight took at least a few attempts.
I was on hardcore mode so could not instantly recover all my health in the middle of a fight with a few stimpacks. Instantly health recovery stimpack makes things way too easy.
