Well ladies and gentlemen prepare for some totally unnecessary ranting.

I just came across this add for some online game called world of tanks boasting they had
American tanks, German tanks, Soviet tanks aaaand French tanks.

My first thought was; "seriously?"

I mean, why are the French in there?
granted they had the largest tank force when the war started and some of their tank types held their own pretty well against the German tanks of the time (which weren't as good as you might hear as opposed to their tanks at the end of the war who were clearly as good as you hear)

but they were overrun by the Germans and weren't really involved in the war from there on in.
(at least not with their own designed and built tanks. I'm not saying anything about Free French contributions here)

My question is just, why are the French in between the Soviets, Germans and United States?
Why not the British? They also had their own tanks and weren't conquered by the Germans.
(Before you start stating that the British bought most of their later tanks from the Americans, I know that, but that's beside the point)

I guess the devs had to balance out the awesome countries with a bad one? [small]Gah, I feel bad for that already.[/small]

Why are there trees on the Champs-Elysee? So the Germans can march in the shade!

I found the ad hilarious, mostly because I read it in that crazy Monster Truck announcer voice.

WORLD OF TAAAAAANKS! NOW FEATURING: FRENCH TANKS! SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!

My jokes are more along the lines of insulting how stupid their tanks look.

"Hey, look at that fugly french tank! Oh, Pardon my Tautology."

No, no, no, the forward one is for when they are attacked from behind. :p

OT: I think it's because the game just has the tanks but it's not set in WW2. If that's the case, the devs just got a bunch of tanks and gave you control over them, it doesn't matter how successful their creators were in the war.

For your information, like 1/3rd of the tanks in that game are prototypes that either have never been built or just havent been massproduced. This is especially true for the last tiers. So having French tanks in there is not weird at all.

I made my french joke from an actual anecdote:

My uncle owns three WW1 bayonet blades. German, English and French, increasing in length in that order.

I guess French troops wanted to stay as far away from the enemy as possible. :p

the length may be a good sign they wanted to compensate for other things as well ;)

here is another good one:

" Who holds the world record for the Tour de France? Von Manstein and the Heeresgruppe A."

Just like the fact that there are prototypes in the game, there is no other logic in the game involved other than pit tank bunch XYZ vs tank bunch 123.
i mean you see soviet, american, and german tanks in one team, that ALONE should give you away that you just choose you tank and wreck shit, regardless of the tank origin.
if it was a game that follows on actual tank encounters from the war, then yeah,it would be a big deal, but in this case: No

The game does have, or plan to include, british tanks.
I don't understand your complaint, surely flavor is the spice of life?

There are some British built tanks in game already (i.e; the Matilda), but there isn't a British tank tree yet. I'm not too familiar on what they plan to add, but a British tank tree wouldn't be too surprising if it was added.

because the french tanks were the last ones they added.. and the high tier ones are damn lethal in the hands of a decent tanker.. viva la lorraine 40t!

so far the tanks cover the period from 1917 to 1959
1917 to 1959? how are they ever hoping to get balanced gameplay out of that?
the earliest tanks would be massacred by the older tanks. plus... German tanks wouldn't go any further than 1945, and they would be outclassed by the others from 1959...

I might just, not understand the whole concept of the game though...
