So i went to get my usual cup of joe and ended up waiting behind a guy who appeared to be trying to buy cigarettes. The cashier asked for his ID and I hear him mutter, "This is bullshit" and then in a clear and distinct voice tell her "I kill people for a living." She tells him she needs to see his ID and he hands her his marine id card and during the split second when both are holding the card during the change he's staring at her and says to her again "I kill people for a living." She tells him that's nice and that he looks young and he says "I kill people for a living and I look young?" She hands him the cigarettes, rings him up, and tells him to have a nice day and he walks out. When he turned around, he looked like he was 15, maybe 16. I ask the cashier how old he was and apparently he turned 18 in March. I advised her the next time something like that happens to get his name, id number, and rank and then contact the local recruitment area. Not sure if that will get anything done, but i figure it would be a start. How would you handle that situation?

I think you had a solid assessment of the situation. Dishing out reprimand is not your duty.

Also, he's probably just sore about being a "tough manly army man" stuck with a baby face.

000, I'm from Australia. If I was from America it would be 911. If I was from the UK it would be, hopefully I can remember this. 08... Give me a sec, it's 0118 999 881 999 119 725 3. That's who I'd call if they told me they kill people for a living, I don't care if they do because they used a passive threat.

EDIT: Misspelled America.
EDIT²: Bad spelling in general.

I agree with perfectimo. It doesn't matter if he was in the military or not, nor how old he was, he was using a passive threat, and being an overall douchebag. If he was in the military, he shouldn't have acted so offensive and such. You'd think soldiers would be more respectful, and have more respect for themselves, in that time and place.

Lol it doesnt matter what they do for a living, they have to show ID. I work in a huge super store (try to guess which one :D) and it doesnt matter if they come in with an M4 rifle, fireman outfit or professors lab coat, if they do not look old enough you must ask for ID.

I bet he was all "Grr I'm an army man *gruntgruntgrunt* grrrr"

Help Fight Crime! Dial 999!

Anyway. Dies it seem weird to anyone else what an Army man would smoke? It's doesn't seem like something the armed forces would allow, but maybe I've got it wrong.

Smokes were included in field rations for a long time, although I'm pretty sure that stopped a few decades back.

What would of been really funny though if after he left walk up to the cash register lady and go "I kill people for a living too"
That cracked me up. Nice.

Heh heh, awesome IT crowd quote there. Brings back good times.
Psh, what would I do in that situation? Be a smart ass and ask him how much he gets payed an hour. Or maybe tell him that HES paying cigarettes to kill HIM for a living. Nah, I wouldn't actually say anything to his face, might crack a joke to the check out girl though. I'm to much of a pansy. But I wouldn't want to call the cops on him, not his fault he's got Napoleon syndrome.

All the military people I know are really well mannered, but the military does hold a certain attraction for people of that type.

On reflection, i think the worst possible reply would have been "I fucked your mom for a living, son."

The cashier is 40ish and looks like she'd been around the block a while. The tone of her voice when she said "That's nice hon, you still look young" with her smoker's voice was so banal I think it derailed the kid from whatever he thought he was trying to accomplish.
