I normally substitute that word with anything, so I try to avoid it like the plague. It's insensitive, derogatory, and unnecessary.

The term gay was has been developed as a term of nonacceptance due to most cases of homophobia and intolerant religious or political propaganda.

I use the word crusty for everything

You're crusty, thats crusty, keep your crusty feet away from me, whats with that crusty chair, you don't expect me to eat your crusty food, whats so crusty about that, crusty the clown, crusty is crusty, how crusty are you? Did you see her crusty shoes, they make the word crusty look crusty.

You get the crusty idea.

The reason that's gay has become normalized (and LUCKILY is finally starting to die down somewhat) is because of homophobia. Gay=wrong. Wrong=bad. Bad=Gay.

Also, the word is not losing it's connection to gay people. Gay people identify as gay. I don't know why some people think that they can just decide to use the word however they see fit even though people are ACTIVELY IDENTIFYING as such. That's BS and disrespectful. Especially since the term gay for homosexuals, came from heterosexuals. It's like gay people aren't even heard or recognized, people just do as they please, and don't think about who they are hurting. It's not right, and it's changing, and that's what needs to continue to happen. It is NOT OK to use gay as a pejorative insult.

I have a gay friend who is not offended by it, and knows i'm not homophobic, but yeah I can see how it would be offensive and i understand if someone was offended.
