Smurfs in f***ing 3D. Yes thats right. Those smurfin' bastards made a live-action/CGI movie about the little blue, 3 apples high, tasty in stew, Smurfs. Basic premise is that they find a portal into Central Park. (Thats in New York City for those that don't know this.)
Additionally, Neil Patrick Harris... WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

So here's the trailer...

Can't seem to get it to embed so thats just the link.

<---- STILL waiting on Voltron and Danger Mouse (in 3-D, yuck) movies, Hollywood can't shut down yet, thanks.

Oh, and my live-action NGE movie(s).

Personally i think Hollywood wants to shut down but can't because its become a self-propogating culture consuming machine.

Alright, everyone smart leave Hollywood, I'm driving to the nearest army base, getting my hands on a missile(cruise or nuke i don't care), and vaporizing the shit out of that area

I have to be honest it does seem like Hollywood is pretty much out of ideas for the most part, having movies like Cats and Dogs 2 is already an indication of that, but still this seems to mostly only be happening for kids movies.
Largely I think this is because there is generally a low standard for making kids movies as the young kids are somewhat easily entertained and while occassionally we'll see good family movies that everyone can enjoy I still get the distinct impression that Smurfs is a 'kids only' sort of deal so it shouldn't be too much of a problem to the rest of us.
That said, they certainly are scraping the bottom of the barrel with this one.

This is the first time you've heard of this? This movie has been huge news twice before: when it was first announced and when they cast the legendary Neil Harris.

...and come to Toronto and Vancouver. Good places to make movies, these are.

I'm pretty sure there is meant to be a set of movies based on board games. As in Monopoly, Cluedo and the like... BOARD GAMES! Smurfs 3-D is a markettable piece of kid fluff in the face of that idea.

...It doesn't look too bad. Good cast and the director has made some quite funny movies before.
Then again, I'm not completely cynical about everyone.

Someone needs to die for this. You see it and know this is gonna be complete run of the mill shit.

Besides, what kid's these days (in the target age group) know anything about the Smurfs outside of the occasional Family Guy or Simpsons joke? And we escapists are a pretty nostalgic bunch, but how many of us honestly want a Smurf movie? And how many parents will honestly want to sit through a Smurfs movie? It seems to me to be an illogical waste of money, but it will still probably rake in millions.

Considering how little you see for this trailer, that's not exactly a good sign. I mean, if they can't even get the best bits and mix them into a trailer what chance does the full movie have?

This is awesome for someone my age who knows about the Smurfs but what about anyone 25 and under?

I have a feeling this generation will look at Smurfs as "lame" and I can't blame them really, as they are just little blue 'things?' and like all cartoons of that time there was always some good, wholesome moral to the story....Personally I would have thought the Snorks would have been better for 3D as they are underwater.

Anyway that evil Gargamel music has all of a sudden started repeating itself in my head lol

Hollywood has been out of ideas for a very long time. It produces its share of good movies, but there's precious little originality any more, seeing as how most people don't want to see anything too unfamiliar. Hence why I've drifted more and more towards foreign films over the last few years: they don't tend to have the massive budgets of Hollywood films, and so have to focus on making the film actually good rather than relying on shiny CG to distract people.

Hasn't Hollywood been producing plenty of crappy movies since the 70's? This hardly seems like a new thing.

A sequel to Avatar already?

I'm kidding. This looks bad and nothing like the original cartoon. And also very annoying.

WTF is with this obsessive love of childhood crap lately?

No, don't point at my avatar. It's meant as an ironic joke. I hate Putt Putt.
