I suggest finishing AC1 first. You can just do the story missions and be over with it fairly quickly. AC2 is a major improvement, and you may like it even if you didn't like the original. Note that if you're playing on the PC, all AC games after AC2 require Uplay, even if you buy them on Steam.

If TS didn't even like AC1 a little, then maybe just get the original AC2 without the rest during a sale (I think it's on the steam sale right currently).

I also tried Brotherhood after finishing AC2, but I eventually got bored with it because the gameplay does get repetitive after a while.
See if you can still stomach more after doing AC2.

Going by everyone else's post, do whatever the hell you want. Although I personally suggest playing 2 through Black Flag.
