So I was visiting a local games and toys store to check out if they have some golden oldies to pick up. (Note: with golden oldies I mean PS2 or old PS3 games as ... well, that's about as old as you'll be able to find here in stores.) Suddenly I spot a game I've been meaning to get: Jak and Daxter: The lost frontier, for the PS2. I was like: MINEEEEEEEE. And then I saw the pricetag ... 39 bucks ... Thirty ... Nine ... Bucks. That's just CRAZY. Even as a starting price for this game, on the PS2! PASS!

Have you ever had this kind of situation before, when something was just too overpriced for its age or quality? (Not counting rarity of a game) If so, spill them beans!

All the time, although I usually consider new games to be overpriced too, so I'm often just waiting for a good game to come down to an acceptable sub $20 price tag regardless of anything else.

THe lost frontier is a relatively new PSP game.

Jak and Daxter
Jak and Daxter 2
Jak and Daxter 3
Jak and Daxter Racing

Those are the PS2 games... That would explain the price.

There's copies of Ico (PS2) being sold on play.com for ?82.95, ?92.95, and ?197.95.

It can't be that good.

The Lost Frontier was also released on the PS2. But it was just a lazy port. Which is the problem, really. PSP prices not withstanding, I find 39 bucks for a lazy port to be just a tad bit too much. Definitely now, a whole lot later.

New games in general :p

I tend to wait for the inevitable price drop before buying things usually, but Amazon seem to do some good prices on games - though I do watch out for sales elsewhere, as sometimes it'll be the same price or slightly cheaper.
(Looking on Amazon.com you can get that Jak and Daxter game for $12.75 on the PS2 lol)

I wanted to get dynasty warriors Gundam a few months ago, nevermind the second one, impossible to find. But the first one is still like 40 bucks used and it is 3 years old. So not a chance.

I went into a movie store thats going out of business and they had movies saying 50% off and they were still around 20 bucks (canadian). Fuck that noise. I'll just go by a brand new movie for that price.

Eh Theres tons of stuff the price should be dropped on but they know that someone will buy it justifying the outrageous prices.

No, but it is fucking great.

System Shock 2 is notoriously hard to get hold of for me, I keep finding it for ridiculous prices, £70 and up. Might start trawling deeper.

The Flee Market is your friend. I got the Orange box for $15 there. I had to haggle him from 20, but it's all good...

Ridiculously priced games? I haven't really had the issue, but I have a feeling there may be a cultural difference in our price ranges, because $39 doesn't seem like that much to me. A little pricey, but not too bad, especially for a damn-near-impossible-to-find, good game.

I would like to submit Dante's Inferno for the PS3 for too damn pricey. Now, I understand that it's only been out for about half a year, but the game's price just dropped about a month ago. After the 360's price had dropped a month or two before. After God of War 3's, a game that came out a month after DI, price had dropped. This just boggled my mind.

Basically all games in all gamestops in Norway. Seriously, 60£ for "new" games? No thanks... Just two days ago I though I'd might pick Alan Wake, so I decided to go and see if they had a used one on Gamestop: 50£!!. I ended up ordering it from play (not used) for 18£.

All hail Norwegian pricing!

One possibility you may not have considered: the employees are too fucking lazy to update the labels every time there's a price drop. I see it at Gamestop all the time; the label says $39 but the website (and the cash register) rings it up as $20.

It's at least worth checking.
