Well, 80% of the people in the thread beat me to the "all new games" option, but it's really true. I think I've paid $30 for a couple new games in the past year, because I found them on sale at/right after launch as part of a promo, but everything else I've gotten I've waited until it's been on sale for $20 or less, and most of it $10 or less. I really don't care if I have to wait a year or two to play games if I can get them for $5-10 instead of $50+, because it's not like it's possible to keep up with all the games worth playing as they come out anyway, so there's always plenty to keep me busy.

$60 for a new game is just getting ridiculous, and then when they want to sell DLC or a subscription on top of that...if you can't make money off a game without charging that much, the problem is that you're spending too much to make it, not that I'm not willing to pay for it. There is very rarely something I'll pay $50+ without complaining and feel like I got my money's worth, but really this is just getting silly.

I usually live by the motto: "if you have to ask how much, you cant afford it"

So no, sadly, never been in that situation.

My local Wal-Mart is still selling the original Xbox version of Call of Duty 3 for $59.96.

My local GameStop is a master of pricing. Force Unleashed, inFAMOUS, Just Cause 2, ... you name it, they sell it for 69,99?. Seriously, even used games are 25%-50% more than Amazon's price for a new one.
I'm never going there anymore.

I went into a movie store thats going out of business and they had movies saying 50% off and they were still around 20 bucks (canadian). Fuck that noise. I'll just go by a brand new movie for that price.

Eh Theres tons of stuff the price should be dropped on but they know that someone will buy it justifying the outrageous prices.
Movie Gallery, right?

I have never been put off by the price of any video game related product because I am not poor. Games cost what they cost but for the hours of enjoyment I get I really don't mind. Per hour I usually end up paying less for a game than a movie.

However, I do laugh at the on demand titles they want me to download since I can find every one of those games used for way cheaper and they still play the same.

Yuppers. No we only have our shitty movie store in my town that is run by morons and doesn't understand proper business which is odd since it's owned and ran by a town council memeber who employs only his daughters friends who do dick all at the store... sorry rant slipped out.

Back when I was curious about Morrowind, I found several copies of it in my local Gamestop for $30+ ridiculous.

Sure, Morrowind is a pretty cool game (a bit hard for me to get into, but it's not bad), but I wouldn't spend more than $15 for it. Which is what I spent on it from buying from a friend.

Many new games for me. I have to really want it in order to buy it at full price.

I can't really think of any others, as anything else that comes to mind is also hard to find, so I can understand the high price tag.

Everytime I go to gamestop or somewhere that sells games, I always check to see if the price went down for Twilight Princess for GC, but its always the same damn launch price!

There's copies of Ico (PS2) being sold on play.com for ?82.95, ?92.95, and ?197.95.

It can't be that good.
I really enjoyed "Ico" and, while it is a fun and artistic game...no, it's not worth those prices. I really wish they would take "Ico" and "Shadow of the Colossus" and rerelease them. Preferably with updated graphics but little to no other upgrades (like Solid Snake doing acrobatics against the rocket with the MGS remake...seriously, I understand that it's not a "serious" game but that was too much in my opinion.)

OT: I would also like to add the original 4 "Silent Hill"s, "Dragon Force", "Land Stalker", and it's sequel "Dark Saviour". There's a few other great games but those were the first ones to come to mind.

I remember going into Gamestop once and I saw that Cod4 was going for 49 euros. That's more expensive than MW2, and this game is 3 years old.

Oy vey, Activision.
There is a going trend with call of duty games, the last 3 in perticular that they dont drop the price at all untill its been out for 2 years.

Am I allowed to say new games in general. I mean sure I know development costs are insane but $60 for a game thats only 8 hours long is just insane. I was in wal-mart the other day and saw a stack of sotc for ps2 new at $20 each. Then I went to EB games (checking out 360 prices) and saw it used for $30. Iv also seen them a few times selling used copies for more then new ones in their own store.
You do realize that price decreases for games are not decided by the company, or even the amount of time.

It's how popular a game is, and how well it sells. Since everyone wants COD games they tend to keep their price, but other games drop really quick. I want Red dead redemption, but that is a popular game so i will probably have to wait a year or so.

FIFA 10: South Africa. At 59.99, I'm not sure that I want to pay that to play just the national teams.

Modern Warfare 2 for the pc. You want $60 for watered down multiplayer, and a weaker story than the first Modern Warfare (which, I'd like to remind you, was only $50)? I'll pass...
