Sorry, but I have been on wikpedia and I've never seen anything he's been in but doctor who. But to be fair, I've never heard of the actors who play the doctor before playing said part.

Thank the sweet zombie Jesus. I am so ready for a doctor with a little more gravitas and a lot less of the running-around-and-shouting Manic Pixie Dream Boy method of problem-solving. Now if they'd only replace Steven Moffat...

I think he'll do very well. Admittedly his introductory video scared me a little, but I think he'll be a great Doctor.
What saddens me is that on Twitter there are people (mostly fangirls) complaining that he's not younger, and not 'fancyable'...
The dude looks like a freaking gentlemen!

The new Doctor is significantly older than Matt Smith and Tennant? I can hear the absolute butthurt of the fan girls from here.

Nah, he's a brilliant choice. I was hoping for an older, less manic Doctor and I got one.

This is amazing. Has made my day. I might even start watching Doctor Who again if the stories get grittier.

Fan girls and shit storylines can fuck off.

Weird considering he's been in the DW universe twice already (although that's happened with a few characters) but I'm really pleased with the choice.

Besides, if it doesn't work out, he can always fuck the fuck off!

I remember the girl who played Martha being in an episode before she became a companion, and I think Colin Baker played a part in Tom Bakers run. It most likely wont be explained .

She was in the season two finale. Gwen from Torchwood was in an episode, so was Karen Gillan (Amy). They clearly can't be bothered to source new people!

WAH!!! HE'S NOT A YOUNG HOT GUY!! WAH!!! THE SHOW'S GOING TO BE RUINED!!! WAH!!!!

Sorry. The amount of fangirls heralding this as the end of the show just because the Doctor is now older is appalling. I do find it odd considering he's been in the show before, but then again, I think the same happened with Colin Baker. I excited to see his take on the Doctor.

I guessed it would be him after they suspended bets and the photos and glimpses we saw fitted. Really excited because he is an incredibly talented character actor (it's important to remember that Malcolm Tucker was basically the Captain Jack Sparrow of The Thick of It) and I look forward to seeing his interpretation of the Doctor. Whatever happens he will essentially be the antithesis of Smith, and I look forward to seeing that.

Nor does it need to be....

I highly doubt they they're going to merge that character with the Doctor, most likely they hired a really good actor who just happened to be on the show about 3 or 4 seasons ago (alot of british actors have been on DW)

I'm so happy with this choice, love Peter Capaldi he is one of my favourite actors. Huge fan of The Thick of It, can wait to see the new series. Didn't really enjoy the last one.

Unless it was someone that's proven to be a terrible actor (NIC CAGE FOR THIRTEENTH DOCTOR), I was going to be cool with the pick (wouldn't mind a minority or female Doctor, but if Capaldi was the best fit for the role, he shouldn't be left out in the cold just because he's not something especially different)...at least until he actually appears in the role. That's when the opinion should be made, after all, when the actor actually acts. People who have seem him in non-Whoverse roles all seem to say he's a brilliant actor (and his performances as Caecilius and especially Frobisher back that up), so that's obviously a good sign.

I'll admit, I'm curious how the new Doctor will interact with Clara. There was definitely an implied attraction with Eleven, and even if Clara does already know about the whole regeneration thing, it'll be interesting to see how she reacts to the personality/appearance shift. With Clara seemingly no longer being a plot point and Capaldi coming in as the Doctor, Series 8 figures to be high on character development (one would hope, anyway), which will be nice.

I think it's a good choice. I like how he actually looks like a 1,000+ years old Time Lord. Not that the other two didn't, they were both great Doctors, they were just...young.

I'm very excited. I wanted either older or not white, and we got DDR :)

Okay, so that last word was supposed to be older, but my phone corrected it that way and I just couldn't bring myself to fix it, lol.

Yeah, I've already seen way too much of that going on. Reminds me of once when I was talking about music with some former colleagues. Rhianna was bought up, I thought she was terrible, and they agreed.

I said "Why do you listen to that stuff then?"

The reply: "Because she's fit".

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to seeing him play the doctor.

I think it's a good choice. It's made me interested in watching Dr Who, which I haven't been interested in after Eccleston. I'm hoping he'll be cool, but from the clips people keep posting, he looks like he might be more than that.

Anything but Matt Smith. Haven't watched that many episodes with him yet, but so far I really don't like him. Maybe he grows on you, though he has put me off from watching the show all togeather. :(
Great that they chose a bit older doctor. Only fairly young ones in the revival so far.
