Then why did you numerically list them?
Force of habit mostly. I didn't even realize it until later. Damned OCD! Sorry if it upset you.

First off, great idea my good man, I'm sure you'll enjoy counting it up at the end...

For me:
Beyond Good and Evil
Portal
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Ratchet and Clank 2: Locked and Loaded[footnote]I believe this was the title, although all I can tell you with certainty is that it was the second one[/footnote]

The elder scrolls IV Oblivion
The elder scrolls III Morrowind
Rome Total War
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Age of Empires 2

now in my opinion all these games are truly fantastic because they share one thing: durability
even after all these years these games continue to suck me in.

I love games like AC2, Halo2, COD2 (whats with the 2's?), GoW, borderlands etc. but they dont have that magical durability and replay as these old classics (not that old but hey)
that said it was a tough choice though as i feel like i just betrayed some of my best friends just to save 5..

Err... No >.>

In all seriousness it was because I'd read the PCGamer magazine's reader's poll of the same nature and I wondered why we as a forum had never done it.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Hello, Escapist!

Kudos and good luck to the OP for this undertaking. In no particular order, because that's even harder than narrowing down a near-lifetime (so far) of fantastic games into just a Top 5:

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
Fallout 3
Metroid Prime
Deus Ex
Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2

Argh, there are so many other games I wish I could vote for too..
