Yeah, it has its fair share of cliches. But it is still a very good story. And if you compare it to videogame stories in general, it's a fucking masterpiece. There are not enough games with really good stories out there. The two games I can think of right now that has a magnificent story which is well told are Bioshock and Braid. And from what I hear, Bioshock was only a retelling of sorts from System Shock 2. If I got time I would probably remember many more, but those are the ones I got now.

But yeah, the story in Saints Row 2 has it's moments. Certain events really made me angry, wanting to eradicate the gang responsible for it. But GTA4 also had those great moments.

I think GTA4 had a great story. It can't be everyones cup of tea though.

But we shouldn't do this.

I'm probably cribbing off Yatzhee here, but we should not start enthusing over a story simply because it is comparatively better to a majority of stories. That simply breeds lethargy and acceptance, as developers will not try and push forward their narrative if they feel that gamers will simply begrudgingly swallow whatever crap is peddled to them.

True, true.

In any case, I think the story is pretty good. You don't. I see why you don't like the story as well, so I totally understand you. But I think those things kinda help the story. It is supposed to be the cliche, stereotype filled story of a foreigner trying to get by in the US of A. And it does that in a well way I think.

But if you don't like the gameplay, then the story has nothing to say. Which is what I think is weird about GTA4. A lot of people hate it, but in essence it is the same gameplay as the past games. Just with some addons here and there, and with some of the more crazy and, let's face it, unneeded parts. Sure it is fun to change your clothes, looks, voice etc. But that just didn't fit into the GTA4 world. And I like it the way it is. But I think that is why people really hate the game. A lot of the crazy things they enjoyed is gone. So thank God for Saints Row when it comes to that crazyness.

I feel I might have derailed the thread a bit... sorry! Will stop now.
