When did vampires and werewolves suddenly become 'things with feelings'? Damnit ... we need Blade to make an apearance on the next Twilight ... then I'll watch with glee ^_^

I have nothing against werewolves personally. I like dogs. But vampires and vampire-love needs to die horribly :_: Or atleast accept the time honoured tradition of "stake through the chest". Repeatedly. Without exception.

Yes, I know Twilight threads have been done to death and beyond, but with the third (ugh, WHY?!) film premiering in about...30 minutes, I figured I might as well as gather some people who hate it.
I was convinced that all girls I go to school with are in LOVE with the series, until I read this review/rant( http://multimindtv.webs.com/apps/forums/topics/show/2915142-twilight-not-every-girl-loves-it-) written by a girl in my class.
Her review seems to emphasize that the series has received too much obsessive hype.

Now to my question.
What is your take on the HYPE Twilight receives? Not the series itself, but all the publicity it gets.
...Twilight? like the zone?

To be honest, I still don't really believe there really is hype. Not positive hype anyway. All I ever see is negativity.

Everyone I know hates Twilight, even those who have not read it. I have never met a single person who enjoys it sincerely. I keep hearing about this apparently adoring massive fanbase on forums and talking with friends, but I never see it. All I see is people bitching about it. Explaining it. Talking on and on about it, but I never see what they are complaining about.

It completely baffled me until I realized the completely saddening truth. I don't know any women. I have not been in the company of someone of the female persuasion in a long time. All of my friends are male. I go to an all boys school. I spend my time watching shonen anime and playing pokemon. I haven't even seen a girl in days. The fact that the TWilight fanbase seems so remote to me is that I haven't had frighteningly little to no contact with its demographic. It's very, very depressing.(Note: I am a heterosexual male. Were it the other way, my life would be much more enjoyable)

I'm so ronery. So, very ronery.

Actually I was looking forward to the first movie when I found out they were making it. But then all the fans started spazing out and then they totally ruined the series for me. Never picking up another Twilight book. This is the reason why I don't go to the Harry Potter fan sites or the wikia.

I like your idea...except for the part where I actually have to go to the movie.

It's funny because most of the people who hate on Twilight have never read it and their opinions are based completely on hearsay.

It's also funny because I'm a hypocrite.

Ehh I don't let it get to me like I use to...cause I realize as soon as the Twilight movies end people are just going to flock to something else. So I just tune it out....I'd advise you to do the same.

Well I have read the first two books (couldn't stand reading more) and it is overhyped.
I think the only reason the hype was sucessful was due to the fact that very few young adult books sell well or are made into feature length movies.

Frankly, i dont see it any different than the Harry Potter boom not so long ago, or Pokemon boom several years ago. The only thing distinguishing Twilight form any other is that it is mostly aimed at teenage girls ... like Backstreet Boys was looong ago :p

Twilight went just one step ahead with adding the well recognizable theme of vampires, which in cultural code are the pinnacle of erotic fantasies, managing to reach to those "sexually repressed" girls we apparently have in modern days.

As for the art value itself, i cant say much, i tried to watch it but quickly figured its not something my old and grumpy butt could enjoy, pretty much like 90% of modern hollywood productions. From purely unbiased point of view its no different than any action movie with xplosions left and right aimed for the manly-man audience.

Twilight (the movie) was overhyped, I thought it was a decent movie, and I can understand why girls flipped over it, but I think they went a bit over the top.
New Moon and Eclipse will either get a 100 or a 0 from almost anyone, even Metacritic isn't a good source here. I'll watch them myself.

But what if you're someone like me who doesn't want Twilight-loving pussy? That shit ain't Grade A!

Anywho, it's just a stupid teen sensation. It'll all be over soon so stop bitching about it.

There are many subpar movies and subpar books, the thing that bothers me is the disturbing portrayal of relationships, stalkerish behavior of characters being viewed as romantic, and negative messaNge toward women. I would have paid it no mind, but at the time the hype started, I was working at a bookstore and had to deal with the fanbase. Usually, I'm an ignore things that I don't care for sorta girl, but having to hear about it day in and out was nauseating. It's not really hate on what is popular sort of thing, I just hate marketing hype machines for anything, even of things that I like.

The more hype Twilight gets, the more people will realize that the books are poorly written, the characters are annoying, and that there is a large market in nerdy teenage girls for genre fiction.

Twilight will, one day, be eclipsed by a better IP in the minds of its target audience.

Until then, I will fastidiously ignore it.

Mh. The plot of the series itself is what tends to piss me off...that and the fact that you can't throw a stick of dynamite without hitting something twilight-related (one of the few perks of the hype, I'll freely admit).

This franchise does not deserve the hype it receives. I've actually got family who enjoy the film (and will never be forgiven for that sin) who have told me it's simply a romance told in a different way, hence the appeal. That gives the hype even LESS credit; TITANIC didn't get hyped this much, and even my blackened soul can watch that without bleeding from the eyes or making someone else bleed from a more vital organ. The series rapes modern fantasy, rapes some of the actual characters, weaves more obscene bullshit into the plot than you can shake a hoe at, and yet it is EVERYWHERE.

...yes, I do get prodded by my friends and family for my seething hatred of this franchise on a regular basis, how'd you guess? :p
