There is no afterlife. Strategia said it best here.

I don't believe there is an afterlife. "Consciousness" and "sentience" are just neural processes, electrical impulses in the brain, even if we do not currently understand how they work. When we die, they wink out, and that's that
Your existence is merely a mass of neurons collectively receiving, interpreting, and storing vast amounts of physical information. Thought, the core of what makes humans special, is basically the ability to revisit previous experiences (thanks to the upper brain) allowing us respond, or not to respond, to stimuli.

Once all of that decomposes, I'm sorry to say, there's nothing but non-existence.

I like to think we have spirits that still hang around. So we're all ghosts and stuff.
I know there's probably nothing, but looking at it this way makes death way less depressing.

I try to live my life with honor, dignity and integrity, I try just try to be as good a person as I can possibly be. That coupled with my belief, that if I meet my death with dignity and honor, then I will have nothing to fear from this life or the next.

Life is consciousness.
If you die, but you're still conscious, you aren't actually dead.

This.

I would genuinely love if there was a magical place where I went to live after I die for ever and ever and eat ice cream sandwiches all day long!

But... I just cant believe in something like that!
That is exactly my thoughts. I'd love for something like this to be true, but everything I know about this world just makes me know that it can't be true.

It's kinda depressing.

Not a clue. I'm inclined to think that there may not be an afterlife, but I'd like to think there was something after I die.

I too would love it if it was some kind of fantastical world where you control everything. But I am pretty sure there is simply nothing. But since that is impossible to imagine, most people truly want to believe there is something.

Just imagine. Nothing. No memory, no smell, sight, hearing. No thoughts. Nothing. It's impossible.

Of course there is an after-life:

God I wanted that game... but I never managed to get a hold of it. If I find it now, I am sure it won't work :/

There's probably no afterlife, but on that note it's kind of hard to imagine what that would be like. Since all human knowledge is based upon experience, it's extremely difficult to imagine what not existing must be like since we've never experienced anything like it.

Honestly, I don't find the "No Afterlife" option so terrifying. In realistic terms, not existing is probably as close as anyone can reasonably get to a state of perfect contentment. Also, considering the popular alternative (which pretty much amounts to Kenny's experience during South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut), I think I would prefer the oblivion scenario.

I have no belief in the afterlife. And am capable of believing that when we die that's it, without getting all depressed and seeing no point to life. As should we all be.

i AM the afterlife.

EDIT:

okay okay, seriousness now,

First off,

imagine being nothing all of a sudden

i believe there has to be an afterlife of SOME sort.

because its hard to just go, boom, im gone.

you would have to exist somewhere, its just... ARRGH to consider not being able to think or do anything and just not exist anymore.

even if the afterlife is going to be bought by EA who force sims 95: Pets down our throats
