Warning, This is kind of a RANT. I have a lot on my mind, and decided to put it all in one topic.

I am amazed at the alarming amount of stupid in the world. examples such as: Jersey shore, PeTA's hypocrisy, WBC, People who are against 'blank' (however have no knowledge about 'blank'.), the pointlessness of so many children shows, parents who let the TV baby-set their kids, badly worded internet bills, gullible and bribe-able politicians, constant remakes of horror movies as sequels showing what hollywood gets away with and its lack of creativity, this cartoon exist, the national debt in the US, most video games are no longer hard and reward people for everything now, people constantly discriminating, degrees no long mean anything (as anyone can get one, regardless of intelligence), activist who don't understand what they are protesting, people who protest just to protest, constant repeats of history (most recent: "let's get those 'terrorist' who threaten our civilization in the middle-east", I refer you to Rome around year 1 AD.), US government apparently admiring to existence of UFOs, and people freaking out about new super-bugs when the plagues of the past were much worse (Spanish flu, black plague, etc...).

First, does any of this surprise you? Second, is there anything stupid that I'm not aware of or forgot to mention? Third, is there any more history repeating itself? Also, feel free to discuss the above issues.

EDIT: Here's more i forgot at the beginning (and i will be adding more here): Poe's law, rule 34, trolls,

people are not stupid

THE MASSSES however are...you want to apeal to as many people as possible? you apeal to the lowest comon denominator

as to weather or not we are stupider than before...thats a hard question, which would obviously require some kind of in-depth study

yeah, individuals are smart, but mobs fall to mob logic.

reminds me of MIB: http://youtu.be/kkCwFkOZoOY

also, I'm only 20, and admit I barely know anything compared to the vast amount of information out there. Also, I spell checked the quote.

I agree. Just read this: http://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com/2011/11/21/republicans-insane-want-to-establish-theocracy/

And you should be afraid about who gets to be the next US president.

*Sigh* Look, heres the thing. We're not getting dumber, as humans go we're becoming incredibly more intelligent. Only difference now is the influx of media attention that has allowed for stupidity to become more publicized. The best comparison I could draw would be the WBC that you mentioned. Yes, they are a well of dumb with very harsh and zealous Ideals. Now look at the church of Catholicism 200 years ago. They were VERY similar. only difference now is that the world has wised up and those views are in the extreme minority. You will always hear stories of the imbeciles, you will hardly ever hear the good of the world but it is there.

Yuhuh. Thought so.

Let me tell you something, buddy. We get this a lot here. And you know what? It is one of the most annoying threads that ever show up on this forum. You are the people who give people the impression that everyone on this site is full of whiny emo "There goes my faith in humanity" guys.

Stop.

Please.

You're hurting me.

You forgot that the US Congress recently declared pizza a vegetable due to the high tomato sauce content...which is bad. But the EU recently declared it illegal for manufacturers of bottled water to put a claim on their product that water can prevent dehydration. Are you F*CKING kidding me? I literally have no idea which one is worse...

The stupid is becoming more well-known, not increasing. Well said @tobithegoodboy

And if the stupid was increasing, would the Child's Play charity have broken the $1M mark?

ok, yes, I'm new. I'm also only 20, so still a kid. Also, I'm a cynic and a misanthrope. sorry. I have faith in humanity, just no expectations. the masses jump the shark constantly, in my opinion. However, we actually seem to be going somewhere, such as scientist using quantum physics, and the recent discovery of something similar to mithril. There's a lot of good, I'm just not drawing attention to it usually, as I want people to realize what we need to fix.

right, this. I'm trying to draw attention to it and nail a sign that reads "Stuff we need to fix!" to it.

I have no clue what this is, demonstrating my lack of knowledge in current events.

My mamma always told me "Stupid is as stupid does."

People aren't gettimg stupider, it's just that we can finally expose all that stupidity.

Also, I may be misinterpretting your point, but I get sort of an elitist vibe from your post.

We are all stupid in our own way, and anybody who denies that should be called out for lying.

I doubt that the people on the Jersey Shore are that stupid in real life. It just so happens all of their mishaps and blunders and otherwise stupid moments are televised.

Wow thats a lot to process. I'll pick a few out.
-Hollywood isnt stupid. Their just grabing money out of unused lisences due to greed.
-Jersey Shore. We like watching idiots be idiots some times.
-Video Games. Thats what HARD MODE is for.
-Anything pertaining to the US. My country has sucked for the past 50 years. No use in being upset about it.

These dont seem like stupidity so much as annoyances.

No one is devoid of stupidity. I guarantee that you have and indeed will do something which many other people will find ridiculously stupid.

Yep I can tell, just do some searches on the site and you'll find tonnes of these threads, and they all have one thing in common. New users. It seems to almost be a right of passage or something here. You'll grow out of it, it just gets annoying seeing some new guy post one of these every other week.

Trust me, people are aware. And whining about it online is not going to change a damn thing.

Sorry if I came off as a douche.

yeah, that's why I condensed mine all into one, to avoid over-posting.

I'm not stupid. I'm just an idiot. Big difference. No really!

OT. Stupidity isn't becoming any more common. I study history. Trust me, there's been plenty to go around for the entirety of humanity's existence. I would argue that, thanks to our modern communications abilities, the dumb is just easier to see and harder to cover up/miss.

Keep your eyes open, your ears open and your head as clear as you can and you'll see plenty of the smart still running around as well.

But the question then is raised 'should be try and fix it?' I mean problems like child abuse should be but little incidents where people happen to get the opportunity to do something stupid and they do it, doesn't seem like something you need to exactly 'fix.'

Interesting, because you seem to know quite a few stupid incidents but not a positive one ;). Food for thought that's all.

A videogame charity which thanks to Desert Bus raised heaps of money.
