Haha I have personal experience with the strict mods on this site. They're completely ott

For example, I am currently on probation for using a line of caps lock in a post. What.
Wow, that's kinda ridiculous.

Is there new mods around or something?
Its the same mods
Its happend to me once or twice i confronted Kulani about it and he helped me out.

My experience with this community is that the mods are strict, but in a different manner than on other forms. Profanity is allowed, but unnecessary or particularly offensive remarks are not. The banhammer may seem a little too quick in coming now and then--I occasionally feel that some of the "low content" bans are a little uncalled for--but for the most part it makes for a community with a much higher average intelligence/maturity. This has become the only message board I frequent.

It's okay, they hurt us because they love us. Also

The people who get suspended are those who comment before they could possibly have watched the video.

Hope that clears everything up.

Without the moderators, this forum would go to hell in a heartbeat. Flame war here, troll over there. The mods are not being mean or unfair, its just their job, and if you feel you've been wronged you can always contact them.

It's not so much on the user as it is a rule to prevent first. If the video is 5 minutes long then we shouldn't expect to hear "Good job." from some one who has yet to even watch the video.

First off, I've been wanting to repost this for SO LONG:
Welcome! Welcome to Escapistmagazine.com! You have chosen, or been chosen, to relocate to one of our finest remaining Internet Utopias. I thought so much of Escapistmagazine.com, that I elected to establish my administration, here, in the Forums, so thoughtfully provided by our Moderators. I am proud to call Escapistmagazine.com my home. And so, whether you are here to stay, or passing through to parts unknown, welcome, to Escapistmagazine.com. It's safer here.

Second: They posted before the time it would have taken them to watch the video in its entirety.

As has been mention in probably every other post here, check the time they posted.

And welcome to the escapist, have a pancake.

firstly welcome to the escapist.

secondly, the banhammer strikes when the content of a post is almost completely pointless, no discussion to it etc.
I will admit i think the escapist has some higher standards, but its these that draw in an audience that can string at least three understandable words together.
Hope that or some of the other posts clear it up for you.

It's better than gameFAQS though. I said, and I quote, "f@&*" and I get my ass moderated. A WEEK later, on the same board, someone says "Fu*k" right in the first post, in a paragraph dedicated solely to that word, the thread gets a few hundred views, and nothing happens to him. Fuck you gameFAQS and your incredible vault of game-specific frequently asked questions and answers. FUCK YOU.

I'm sorry, something came over me there. Anyway, the mods are a tad tight, but it's better than the alternative... Youtube, where the only things censored are the copyright infringements.

The mods tend to jump all over things here. It's annoying because you always need to watch what you write closely. But it's also a good thing! It keeps the forums squeaky clean of all kinds of stupidity. These are one of the few forums on the web that's nearly free of trolls and stupid comments like 'first'.

I've heard people talk about being put on probation for having low content/value posts. Ass licking Yahtzee by telling him what a great job he does 3 minutes after his latest video comes out is extremely low value.
Maybe Australian asses taste good :/

It's about low content posts. Watching a new video and saying 'good video' or 'bad video' is annoying and not very helpful. Saying 'could have been made better by...' or 'I don't agree with this opnion, and here's why...' provoking debate, or at least providing an interesting read, is better for users.

It's been tightened up a lot recently though, which I think is a good thing. People don't need endless gratification.

Well, I can't say I'm an experienced member, and I also think it is a weency bit ridiculous that some people are permanently banned for simply saying 'Good Job' on the first post. Something that makes this doubly weird is that on later pages, someone saying the exact same thing would not get reprimanded. Seems silly to me. Perhaps others are jealous about someone else having the first post? Meh. Anyway.
[sub]Welcome to the Escapist! Here's hoping you won't suffer the wrath of the Bannhammer.[/sub]
They are suspended / banned because they couldn't possibly have already watched the video, say Yahtzee posts his 4 minute long video at 12:00, then someone posts "Loved the Video" at 12:01. They are just trying to get "first."

well... In my opinion you can't argue with the results. Yes the moderaters are strict but as a result you have some of the best fourms on the net.

For the longest times i thought i did not like fourms. then i saw The escapist fourms

It depends on the mod who checks out your post, they are all quite different i think.Sure most are strict but escapist is somewhat troll and /b/tard free.

Right, I'm a new member to this site so i'd like to start off by saying hello to everyone.
that done i'd now like to get straight to the point.
I'm a long time viewer of Zero punctuation and in celebrating the final release of the borderlands review i decided to had a gander at the topics posted about it but my attention was immediately drawn to multiple tabs saying "user suspended, user put on probation blah blah.."
and after seeing the first post were some blatant prodigy of einstein had put "first" and only "first" i thought god i hope yet another forum hasn't fallen prey to complete fuck wits but after reading one or two posts which had been condemned a little alarm started flaring up suggesting things weren't right, just a couple of examples that got people either suspended or put on probation were "thnx for the vid" and "been waiting for this for ages"

now before you start to think I'm just a random troll roaming the interweb to slag people off let me say that i myself am a global moderator of a forum not unlike this one and i was actually gob smacked when i saw people had been condemned for basically saying "good job well done".

Now yes, someone putting "first" at the beginning of a topic can be annoying but what happened to just taking the complete piss out of them for utterly embarrassing themselves? It's both enjoyable and lets you get out your creative side (i.e coming up with smart insults that won't get you banned)
but the real problem i had was with seeing users being penalized for complementing good work, if i'd have made a ground breaking video series and someone put "thanks for the vid" the first thing to do would be maybe say your welcome? or at the very least a *nod* at the monitor.

now no doubt i myself will be in for some prosecution after this but before you do so please let me inform you that I'm merely on a fact finding mission, the fact is a fairly simple one:

Why are you guys so hard on your users?

Now going on previous forum experience I'm aware that a reply from from someone actually in power here is somewhat to far over the rainbow so if there are any other experience forum users (experienced meaning you don't put "ferst" at the beginning of a topic) that would like to give me a hand grasping this it would be appreciated.
but however if i do fall victim to the "banhammer" before this get out then all i can say is elvis isn't dead.

Ta.
As has probably already been said, the people who get suspended (or banned) at the top of all of the ZP threads are people who commented before they cold have possibly watched the video.

yes the moderators of this site are actually pretty attentive
unlike other forums where bottomfeeders had their belly filled with excessive amounts of bullshit they've been scavenging via spam, troll, etc...

The forums on this site are for discussion. it clearly says that in the forum rules(I do beleive). Trolling, "first", and "nice review" all have one thing in common: They contribute nothing to the discussion. The banhammer for this kind of thing is in place to make sure the website isn't buried beneath the weight of stupid/useless posts. I think it is doing a great job too.
