I loved the fight scenes and web-swinging, it was done well and you could actually tell what was happening. The FP parts were even more glorious and I really hope they use it more often. They managed to bring some variation to web-slinging and swinging so I was really happy about that. I also liked Garfield being Spiderman, he was just fucking great. However, there are other parts that I didn't like so much. I didn't really like the dialouge, they didn't feel very authentic and natural. I felt that with some tweaks and better use of pauses and expression it could have been much better. The worst being the scenes with his uncle, aunt and Dr. Connors with his associate. I also felt that Garfield's performance as Peter Parker was average. I think I just don't like his acting :p. That's about it really. Now for my nitpicks xD. The Lizard's head looked atrocius. You can't just add scales to a human face, make the mouth bigger and be done. Otherwise he looked great aside from his lack of lab coat. I just feel it's an important part of his attire. The scenes with the cranes and the kid in the car felt very, very cheesy to me. It just wasn't touching. Another weird scene for me was when Gwen's dad just kept shooting at Lizard. I don't know, when a villain is on the ground and someone keeps shooting a shotgun at him it just feels kind of wrong. I know the Lizard wasn't going to be harmed but damn >.>.

This is all my personal opinion and how I feel.

I loved it. Finally, Spider-Man was done justice in cinema. I was so disappointed by the Raimi films, and I was just a kid when they came out. But this movie was awesomely good. I loved the cast of characters and the action scenes.

The Lizard could have been done better. I think Rhys Ifans killed as Doc Connors but there just wasn't much to work with. They showed at the end, when Curt Connors helped Spiderman and showed concern for Captain Stacy that Curt was a good guy who lost control, but they could have made it clearer. You got the idea that he was just evil.

But I loved Garfield as Peter Parker. He really felt like a character, while Maguire just felt like a caricature. The over-dramatic, unrelatable, campy cast of the old films are gone, and thank god.

The film was just so cool. I was so happy watching it.

And I hate it when people call the romance parts "Twilight-y". Apparently ALL teen romance in a movie that's not explicitly about teen romance is now categorized as "twilight-y". That sucks because it's letting Twilight win.
It really disappointed me how MovieBob said that in his review. That whole review was very cringey, I thought. Talk about a tantrum. I still like Bob, but it's things like this that remind me how unprofessional he acts sometimes. Sometimes I think he can't be relied on for much more than the occasional interesting viewpoint on nerd culture.

I like it a lot. Maybe a bit mor than it deserves because some of my appreciation may come from the fact that i really didn't expect it to measure up to Raimis movies and much less to be better than them in some regards. It wasn't perfect... The Lizard looked too much like Killer Croc and was in many ways too similar to Doctor Octopus, the low budget really showed in some scenes and the pacing wasn't exactly perfect but other than that i was pretty impressed. The characters were really well written and perfectly cast, Andrew Garfield was a far more relatable Peter Parker than Toby McGuire (Who wasn't bad by any means but in a way kind of a nerd-stereotype where Garfield is more realistic) Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy was one of the most likeable love interests in any superheromovie and Denis Leary as her father may just be the best character in the movie. So... yeah, i liked it. Don't get why MovieBob hates it so much.

It was pretty solid. Acting was good, the direction was well done, the more grounded tone was interesting, etc...

But that's kind of all I can say about. It wasn't particularly fresh or new, and it never really took any risks. After the Avengers, the standard "origin, villain fight, grim reflection, girlfriend in trouble, beat villain" formula isn't really enough for me any-more. Hopefully it can get a chance to spread its wings a bit in the sequels.

Competent. I'm not going to say that I liked it better than the other spider-man films (with the exception of Spiderman 3), but I didn't hate it nearly as much as Movie-Bob. Yes, I noticed quite a few flaws - the plot had too much crammed into it, the "sob-scenes" didn't make me bat an eyelid, and the main villain has a lack of motivations, menace or memorable lines. It really felt like they cobbled it together from three separate scripts, written by three different writers.

But it wasn't terrible. As a friday night's diversion goes, it was fine. The actor who plays Peter is alright. The actor who plays the villain starts of decent, but very quickly goes super-hammy. The actress who plays gwen (I think that's her name?) is mediocre at best but she's surprisingly not in the film all that much.

I can see how a big fan of Spider-man might hate the film. I certainly did notice the flaws that Movie-Bob pointed out. But the cinematography is alright, I personally noticed nothing wrong with the CGI at all, the fight-scenes are well done and most of the actors do a pretty good job, even if some of their direction and lines are terrible.

Is it worth seeing? Yeah, I guess. No, it won't light the world on fire, but it's not aggressively bad in any way. Personally, I would give it 3/5 stars.

guys supposed to be a dorky nerd right?

Also. aunt may was too hot. I shouldnt wanna bang aunt may.

So in all it seemed like aiming at a younger audience and it also seemed like an unnecessary reboot origin just so marvel doesnt get the rights back.

Well... I saw it for free, on the largest screen in my county, in 3D... and I still didn't think it was worth it. Sorry to everyone who enjoyed it, but I just didn't.

I never actually read any of the Spiderman graphic novels, so I'm not a "hardcore fan" who's is trying to hate on every change that was made. I have, however, seen the original trilogy of Sam Raimi films, and I thought that they were solid movies. I went into this movie with my friend, his carefree older brother and his sister, and was really trying to enjoy it and just have a good time. Sadly, I just couldn't do it.

I'll summarize briefly:

1. I'm simply hard-pressed to remember much of anything from the film.

2. I didn't really like Andrew Garfield as Peter. To me, Toby Maguire pulled Peter Parker off quite well, acting as the quiet, contemplative, nerdy type of character that Peter is. I didn't feel as sympathetic towards this Peter, likely do to his hoodie-wearing, skateboard-riding attitude and persona.

3. Didn't like the villain. The Lizard was never one of my favorite villains to begin with, and I don't think they gave him much depth or character. Didn't care for the CG on him, either.

4. It was just BORING. I don't mean boring as in: "Oh, it took almost an hour before he became Spiderman." I enjoy build-up, as it makes the pay-off much more satisfying. I mean boring as in: "Wow, I really don't care about ANYTHING that's happening."

5. I did, however, like the action. The web-swinging scenes looked good, and the choreography of the fighting was fine. On that note, I thought that the early fight scenes were shot a little too close, and I couldn't easily tell what was happening.

That's really all I have to say. I wasn't really expecting that much, and I was still rather disappointed.

The good:

Excellent pacing to Spidey getting and mastering his powers
Comedy was pretty spot on
First-person scenes were excellent
Action was pretty good
Villain was not entirely an unstoppable guy, he had limits to his power

The bad:

Peter was sold out as a nerd, but he looked like a hoodie wearing, skateboarding street punk who wore hipster glasses
Peter used Bing, I mean seriously?
The morals made little sense

The ugly:

The antagonist sucked. Just plain sucked. Some evil scientist who creates a serum that 'perfects' humans by causing something not perfect, and tries to 'perfect' ALL humans because "humans are blahdeblah" (they ALWAYS have that speech); the setup for trying to find a way to grow back his amputated arm was fine, but he lost all good villain points for saying "I know that I just rampaged in NYC, but I don't have to wear glasses anymore! THIS MUST BE SOMETHING WORTH DOING AGAIN!"
Continuity, the fact that all the little sub-plots are forgotten when the main villain dude came in. The mystery behind Peter's parents, Peter trying to stay close to his aunt, finding the thug who killed Uncle Ben, Peter's involvement with Oscorp, Peter being bullied by the Eugene guy, etc. They had a lot of potential to be built upon, but all we got was a little closer at the end

It was good, but it had room for a lot of improvement

I so badly want to hate this movie.

It has that obnoxious, smug, hipstery-looking main character, it's set in highschool, the spidey-suit looks rubbish, the film only exists to keep the license, it doesn't have Jonah; so I check IMDB, and would you look at that, it's rated 7.8 out of 10.

How dare this movie be worth watching. How dare it.
Peter doesn't work for the Daily Bugle until later. Jonah will show up though. He has to.
Everyone and their mother loves him (rightly so).

OT: I really enjoyed it. I thought Garfield made a fantastic Spider-Man/Peter Parker, much better than Tobey ever did. He actually cracked jokes while fighting and he MOVED LIKE A SPIDER. I'm glad they actually got an actor who was a fan of the source material.
I also LOVED Emma Stone as Gwen Stacey. She could've so easily fallen into the boring love interest and damsel-in-distress shtick but she brought a lot of life to the role.
Not to mention the aesthetics were gorgeous. Saw the movie in Imax 3D, and the scenes towards the end were really eye popping.

Also, Stan Lee's cameo? Best fucking ever, hands down.

lol he wasn't cool. He was INCREDIBLY awkward. Around any girl he was either stammering or leaving awkward pauses.

It was really good, but the CGI wasn't too hot. The Lizard was painful to look at. Also, there were a couple of things that didn't add up for me, like:
How the FUCK did no one notice Peter's bullet wound out of costume?

Really good, but not the be all end all Spiderman film. To do that, they'd need to blend Spiderman 1 and this. That would be the perfect origins story.

I've heard very different viewpoints on this movie. Spoony Liked it, Brad Jones and crew (the Cinema Snob) Liked it. And people at my work liked it.

Movie Bob hated it so much I think he burned a hole threw space around him. I would make a joke here how he's allowed to hate Spider Man but we can't hate the ending of a game but that would be petty.

I personally can't decide as I haven't seen yet but it seems to be a rather polarizing movie at least among reviewers. I'm going this Monday so we'll see.

While watching, I thought it was pretty decent.

Fast-forward an hour later, and I feel the same was as MovieBob does.

It's a bad and unnecessary film, that I wish I never spent any money on.

I would definitely agree with this. When Connors started having the internal lizard dialogue about being all powerful, I automatically assumed the serum was making him crazy. But that's my default state when watching a superhero movie. You get powers and you're either A) going to become the Hero or B) go crazy and get beaten up by the Hero. I would have appreciated more depth from Connors in that regard.

YES. To both of these things. I think that entire section at the school was my favorite part of the movie.

I liked it. There were a few little things, like how it never occurred to Peter Parker to Google his father until he found his old briefcase, or that Peter Parker's personality seems to shift from angst to wisecracking from time to time, but overall, I really enjoyed it.

I loved it. In MY opinion, I thought the movie was pretty awesome.

What I loved:
-Andrew Garfield dethroned Toby Macguire.
-Martin Sheen killed it as Uncle Ben
-Peter seemed like a modern high school teen, not a one dimensional nerd stereotype.
-The acting and the chemistry between the actors was great.
-The Script is well written
-The fighting was entertaining and well choreographed.
-Beautiful cinematography

What I did not like
- I did not care for the Lizard. He was not that great a villain.

8.5/10 for me

I didn't pay for the tickets, so I'm not sure if that's clouded my judgement, but...

It was...okay.
Nothing amazing, nothing terrible, just an okay film about a comic book character.

The only REAL reasons I see to hate this more are:
1) This means NO Spider-man in the next 'Avengers' movie, which sucks.
-Same goes for the next X-Men/Wolverine films

2) The Lizard was completely frelling underdone.
They SHOULD have used some 'throwaway villain' like The Shocker or even a BIG TIME like 'The Kingpin' - who only shows up at the end of the film to 'explain' he was the one targeting spider-man/NYC with generic soldiers/mafia types.

3) Seriously, The Lizard was a TOTAL-FREAKING-WASTE...like Venom in the 3rd film.

4) Gwen Stacy should have either had a better, less annoying, actress or been tossed off a bridge at the end of the film (o, snap!) because I REALLY can't stand her.

I liked it, I don't see what moviebobs issue is, all his points seem to connect back to the theme of "It's made by sony and it's different! HATE IT WITH ME!"
But, seemingly, he is literally the only person on the planet who thinks that way.
