So we all know that on the Escapist we can occasionally get carried away and go off topic. This is called "derailing" a thread. Well here is a thread without any rails. I'm just going to post something on my mind at this point in time. Then anyone who wants can draw a tangent to it and discuss what they want. If they want to talk about what I'm talking about fine. If I say something about a team in football and they want to talk about another team in football for example, also fine. Just choose any discussion you want that has even a slight link to the original topic. And most importantly...enjoy yourself.

I am going to start. So I am a fan of Portsmouth F.C. The team has recently gone bankrupt and with West Ham United winning tonight we're relegated. All we have left is the FA Cup. We're in the semis against Tottenham (who have our best players and our old manager the scoundrels). We're not looking as favourites in any way. Naturally I'm irked. However on the better front I'm watching Chelsea play Aston Villa and Villa are playing quite well. I'm hoping they win.

So go and draw tangents to your hearts desire.

Don't underestimate the power of derailing. If I had the interest, I could probably derail a thread like this.

Ha! I'm watching the same game! I like Chelsea. They are going to win.
I dated a girl named Chelsea once, and that was not a win, but a massive failure.
Talking about failure I was freaking out over an English exam I had to do the week before my holidays. Book comparison between 1984 and Brave New World on the theme of love. I did pretty well but I honestly thought I'd fail.

I just conquered Greece in Rome - Total War.

Someone tell me how awesome this game is. Someone. Please. I'm beginning to think the Escapist doesn't know this game, owing to the huge number of hints I've dropped about it in the last two days with absolutely no responses.

Yeah that game does kick some ass. My friend is obsessed with it playing it non-stop. I don't own it but I have a blast playing it. I do own Medieval 2: Total War though since it was given to me by a friend and I haven't had time to install it I haven't played it. Should be awesome.

And talking about stuff kinda Italy related I went to Genoa for an MUN conference a while back. Now that was awesome. Met great people, had a blast and even did some decent debating. Plus the city is beautiful.

Nice to know that I wasn't the only one thinking about that, i'm pretty sure it's possible.

It's not only possible, I've done it before.

(derailing the underailable thread!)

I'm playing bass!
Awesome. You ever hear the song Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)? Awesome Bass solo. Its by Metallica. Check that out. If/When you can play that I will give you +1 internetz and +1000 respects.

And on the original match. DAMN! Chelsea scored. 1-0. Lets hope Aston Villa can pull off a cupset.

And he stood before the fallen. It called itself underailable. Well. Our king put its name to the test.

Days of battle continued. He finally uttered "It is done"

It called itself underailable. And yet it failed our great king Leonida-crimson5pheonix's test.

Like that time we derailed that thread with our Warhammer 40k banter? That was fun.

I got incredibly drunk the other night. I started drinking at home while grilling my steak, then I drank some more on the brewery tour that I went to, then I drank even more at trivia night at the bar, where I won even more beer, which I then drank. I don't even remember how I made it home. My roommate found me passed out on the couch the next morning. I think that's a new record for me on total drunkenness.

So how was everyone else's Thursday?

I disagree.

I think you just did, therefore you can't derail it.

To Derail a thread is to remove it from the original intent, yes?

the intent of this thread is that it has no rails in which to derail, am I right?

Therefore to derail this thread, I would need to add some rails, as that would detract from the original intent of no railage, if you get me?

But then this thread would have rails and would not then be derailed, so in order to derail the thread, One would have to remove the rails, which would put the thread back on the metaphorical rails, as dictated in the Original Post? but then that would mean I would have to derail the thread by adding rails...

that either makes perfect or no sense.

I think my brain just asploded. Anyway, have some rails.

More derailing: I went to CERN three weeks ago! I now know how the universe works! Hurrah!

That was fun. But I'm talking about taking a thread with no discussion value, building a discussion in it, then derailing that discussion.

Ah, but I started this campaign 2 days ago. And getting past the Greek Cities/Macedon barrier as Brutii is one of the hardest parts of the game.
