Hmm JD Payne and Patrick Mckay.

Only credits I see is they wrote for Star Trek: Beyond, and the upcoming Godzilla vs Kong and another Star Trek movie sequel.

....Now I am nervous.

That resume doesn't suggest anything positive or negative in of itself to me.

Okay, then. The Lord of the Rings trilogy was pretty good, wasn't it? I would have been fine with just leaving it at that. I mean, we got three pretty long movies. They wrapped up nicely. Then there was The Hobbit, which made for another trilogy of pretty awful movies. By now I'd be perfectly fine with just leaving it. You know? Like, not continuing it anymore. And I know very well that that appears to be something we, as a society, just don't do anymore because everything has to be continued until the end of all time but how about we just start... not doing that? I mean, sure, occasionally you get something like Blade Runner 2049 or Twin Peaks: The Return or Star Wars: Last Jedi or even Mad Max: Fury Road out of it but most things that are good can just remain the way they are. Without making a sequel or prequel or remake or reboot or whatever.

I am actually really looking forward to this. I think there is a demand for a LOTR TV series and do hope they do a good job on it. I love the medieval/ fantasy movies and shows and there is really not enough of it out there right now so hopefully this will do well! I wish they would make more stuff like this. If they do it well enough it could be around for a while since I think there is enough demand for something like this. I know me and my sisters will all be following this to see how this turns out. We have to have something to keep us entertained waiting for us to be able to dress up for Scarborough fair to come around every year.

There's going to be a Godzilla vs Kong movie?!

I hope they don't let the same people fly the helicopters this time.

Now you're nervous? Only now?

It's going to be a clusterfuck destined to tarnish the genre, possibly only rivalled by that Shannara pile of crap that got produced a while back.

Sci-fi Fantasy doesn't come off well when produced as a multiple series thing by big companies only interested in the bottom line.

I still like the original ones better... Though Mothra was one of my favorites.

Just seeing that gif makes me want a Mothra Plushie.

And fuck it I am gonna say it, this is just gonna be handled by Los Angeles/New York figures and not a British production company, and I do not trust the Americans to treat this story with the honor and dignaty it deserves.

You know, my gut instinct is to be cynical about this. The movie trilogy is damn near perfect and trying to recapture that magic seems like a lost cause to me. Why the Entertainment industry insists on remaking classic films/shows bamboozles me (well, obviously the answer is money, but why produce something almost guaranteed to be unfavourably compared to the original is a mystery).
But i don't want to be cynical this time, so I'm just going to say I hope a tv show means that we'll get more time devoted to some of the characters skipped out by the film, like Bombardil or Glorfindel.
And I keep fucking saying it, but when are we going to get an actual adaption of the Necromancer stuff? There's this whole plot line of Sauron in hiding while the White Council try to root him out that just hasn't been used yet, and that annoys me. You get to use a bunch of familiar characters and you wouldn't have to directly challenge the films.
"But British, that was in the Hobbit films! It's why it was a trilogy"
No it wasn't, it was there for like 5 minutes in each film and was resolved by Galadriel pimp slapping Sauron back to Mordor.

I think, there should have been a Silmarillon adaption. Turin Turambar must be adapated.

I like the idea, but I don't think it will ever get made. I can see a Producer looking at the Necromancer stuff and going "well it takes place during the hobbit, and it's got all these characters from the films that people will recognise!", while I reckon the same producer would go "Beren and Luthien? Who cares about them? Or this Feanor dude? Not marketable enough!" and then chucks the script out.
Would be pretty sweet if they did though, it'd be a nice way to introduce people to the Silmarillion since many seem to not be interested in reading the actual book.

It's not the "damn near". It's the two things being compared are nowhere near each other.

Market Morgoth then, that dude makes Darth Vader, Joker, and Thanos look like pussies in comparison.

And the Silmarillion had more bigger and flashier battles especially with more Dragons and Balrogs in the mix, And get the fangirl tumblr market with all the "beautiful male Elves" that makes the majority of charcaters in the First Age.

I mean jeez just when will its day come!?

I'd certainly love to see this happen, I just wouldn't bet on it.
