Anyone noticed that in recent years there is a big gaming scandal in March


2010- The firing of West and Zampella(Heads of Infinity Ward)

2011- The PSN hack

2012- The Mass Effect 3 ending uproar

2013- SimCity's always on DRM failiure


So, any ideas about next year

my one: The X1 sells a tiny fraction of the PS4's sales. Microsoft blames the customers for just not "getting it" and reverses their reversal of policy.

Going to go with X1, going to go with Kinnect actually being always on regardless of what they've promised and that the Kinnect is actually recording the audio of what's going on in the room 24/7. This is going to turn out to be a hardware glitch combined with software which was created to try to turn the Kinnect into a Webcam, not a nefarious scheme, but we aren't going to find out about that for at least a week of scandal.

Yeah, okay, maybe too specific? X1 will have Kinnect issues!

I can picture the resulting press conference explaining it.

"Hey, we gave you guys nearly a decade worth of warning! Why do you think we called the last console the 360, eh? EH?! FORESHADOWING!"

Yeah, I would have to go with an Xbone policy reversal. The only difference between this and the other scandals is that it will be known not just to the gaming community (let's face it, the Mass Effect 3 Ending thing, while important, did not hit the general public at all other than the reactions) and instead be plastered all over primetime television and late night talk shows. The backlash will be massive and the public will practically disown Microsoft

Looks like the 2010's are one for enjoying their good drama, can't wait for the 2014 March madness.

The funny thing is that none of those madnesses should effect me but nontheless I've been dragged into them.

2010 - I stopped believing in Infinity Ward's ability to make fun games (for me) after they released MW2, but I was effected because whenever I say that MW3 is bad people just go "It's because most of IW left!!!"

2011 - I have a few friends on PS3, so I receive numerous "But Xbox THIS!!!?" so they can live in their fantasy world of PS being perfect.

2012 - I haven't played Mass Effect, but again I have friends who like it and the internet exploded briefly because of it.

2013 - My experience with the Sims is limited, but the failure of it and the sheer amount of hatred came as a surprise to me because I didn't realise that the Sims was still that popular.

Next year? Hmm... what if the Wii U has better sales than the PS4 and the Xbox One because it turns out that while they're all crap the Wii U is probably the most innocent.
