It's the feeling that my actions shape the world, that does it for me. After I defeated the Enclave, I really felt like I had saved everyone from a terrible fate, and I was now free to roam the countryside like a god, dispensing my own particular brand of violent and stealthy justice to any who might oppose me.

Seriously, with Broken Steel, Fallout 3 has perhaps the best post-game gameplay of anything I have ever played. It's still so much fun to wander, and there's still so much to do.
I know what you mean. I don't think I've ever felt as accomplished as I did when I saw the effects of Project Purity.

Cos you can smash a Super Mutant over the head with a super sledge, watch his head roll down a hill, and then follow it and end up playing a very strange version of Football (or Soccer) with it.

... or mabye that's just me.

I really like the setting and the immersion, personally. I usually just explore, and do my best to ignore any conversations. If you do that, it's really easy to get sucked in, and just explore the whole map. It's great.

Just a question.
Will the GOTY edition have most of the glitches ironed out?
I stupidly traded in my copy before getting very far, getting all the DLC plus the game appeals very much.
But I don't want to have to endure glitches too much.

The exploring, and explosions.
Ever see a Raider on a 4 lane highway fight off a Eyebot with a assualt rifle. They, and all the cars in a hundred foot radius, blew each other up.
This is so true, I am playing with the Experimental MIRV for over a week now, and i still enjoy every single of those explosions!

I remember this bit. Saw it just after the Those! quest.

I haven't finished yet and I've had a 6 week break. ~ gotta get back to the Wasteland.

After 7 months of having the game I've finally slowed down.I'm level 29 and have done literally everything. I guess I could make a new character and get all the items I accidentally sold.

I'm level 30 on an evil character and 19 on a good one xD.
Good, evil and neutral gives it great replayability.
Most quests have several different endings.
The first time I played through the main storyline it really pulled me in and I got kinda sad when James yelled at you for blowing up megaton xD
All the moding and the DLC always brings you back and while doing them you also find old quests that you missed out on and get a heck of alot more playtime then just the DLC.

I liked the "artificial" immersion, I mean the in-game story one, not the technical one. The Enclave radio was fooled me when I first played the game. I was thinking these guys want to fix the nation. That was a hook I let draw me in.

I also think one of the best things about this game is its over the top nature still sealed within the serious tone. e.g. using the fisto! to pop a super mutants head like a champagne cork, who easily towers over you. Or the awesome might of the MIRV

You can do nearly whatever you want. Each time you play the game you play it differently. Also in my opinion, Fallout 3 was very boring the first couple of hours before you really knew how the whole game works. Walking around in the wilderness with a pistol is extremely boring. I mean, I love it now that I understand the game but at first it's very boring.
