It's your standard run-and-gun, and I just don't see the appeal.
I don't see how you can think this. Each halfway-decent map has a set objective, and if you play the classes well enough (i.e. don't play a Spy against a team full of Pyros) you can complete the mission easily.
Although RED team is the defender on most control point and payload maps, there are at least three other gametypes where RED and BLU have equal objectives. Plus there's the satisfaction factor of blazing into the enemy base, grabbing their briefcase and running away like a bat out of hell.

I would recommend it to anyone who plays shooters, as long as they don't go to achievement grind servers. Don't get me started on them.

Plus the Heavy has a sandwich. nom nom nom.

Ok, I think some people may be misunderstanding me here.

I'm not trying to put down your favorite game or say it's bad, I simply wanted an idea of what people see in it.

So far I have: balanced, funny voice acting, good graphics, upgrades, and good community as the major factors people play.

Now, someone mentioned that it's not a run-and-gun game. This i'd like to disagree with, if I may. In my eyes, any FPS where there's no real consequence for dying is run-and-gun. You can run out into the field without fear because you'll just respawn in 20 seconds if you die. I think that's the thing that pushes me away from not only this game, but most of the big name FPS games(and lately that's becoming all FPS games). People are bringing up that you need to use teamwork, which is good, but it still has the "dying isn't that big a deal" stamp on it.

Maybe i'm just a strategy elitist, but I never understood the appeal of that.

Actually, due to the fact that it does largely revolve around control points and CTF, there is much more of a penalty for constant rushing and death than say, in Halo, as during that time you aren't defending or capturing, and thus have made the other team more likely to win. Also, it takes a while to get from the spawn to the action, so that 20 seconds can effectively be extended to nearly a minute. I agree, however, that many games are run-and-gun, and I'm not so fond of that, either.

You are kidding right?

Team fortress 2 has to be the most fun, best balanced shooting experience on the market right now.

No matter what kind of shooter you like there is a class for you, the maps are all awesome, the gameplay and teamwork are top notch and the community is the best I have ever seen.

Actually play the game dude. It is great.
it is balanced however i don't really like it, because, i'm usually pretty good at fps's however i just can't do well in it. i always get camped, and it just stops being fun for me.

yes i did say this and its true, ok not in the literal sense i wouldn't go down the street mow an old lady down and say hay would you look at that, wasn't that fun. Thats evil, even for me. But it is fun to do it in a game especially as pyro, flame is good!

It's really good fun =)

It's slow paced and simple, making it good for babies that want to ease into the FPS genre. Oh yeah, and one of the characters makes the awesome face and says funny things, ha ha look at that. Other than that it's unremarkable. Class balance is off by miles and most of the maps are trash. Don't play this game.

It's incredibly well-balanced, and you'll hardly ever get bored of it, due to the variety and uniqueness of the characters.

Furthermore, it is constantly patched (well, at least the PC version is) and the character updates are just plain awesome (Ambassador anyone?).

It's a good, online shooter, not bogged down with shitty gameplay like CoD4 and with a varied list of options.

I have to agree with the OP,it's just like every other online shooter as in you shoot at things until they die. And Portal's just like every other game as it provides hours of entertainment, games should strive for innovation, where games like Portal try to be like every other game by being fun, real games should be a measure of anger-management like superman 64,that was a great game

*Finishes his acid trip*

Oh wait tf2 is fun because it relies on team based strategies and adaption instead of single minded camping tactics and playing 16 hours a day to develop cyborg reflexes.
