ODSTs, what we fight for...

Chapter 1

It was just another basic day on board The Eagles Nest, a large ship that housed most of the UNSCs? command structure. It was large, easily six kilometers from stem to stern. It acted as a mobile command system for ground forces and naval. It was able to take enormous punishment. It was honeycombed, something the UNSC had picked up on after the destruction of the first Halo. The Pillar of Autumn had taken a beating and was still able to land intact.

A young ODST walked down on of the numerous hallways in the ship. His name tag read ?Maljevik?. He rounded a corner. He was wearing standard off-duty attire; a jet black T-shirt with ?ODST? inscribed on it as well as the wearer?s last name. Rank was displayed on the left shoulder in a metallic finish. He had one chevron and two crossed rifles under it. A Lance Corporal. He wore jet black cargo pants and boots. He had a M6C in a holster on his side. He passed two Navy nurses in their white dresses. He did a double take. Looked at the one with the red hair, smiled to himself and walked on. He reached the mess hall.

?Hey! Mal! Same thing as yesterday?? The cook behind the counter asked. The T.E.N was one of the few ships left in the fleet that didn?t have an all automated mess facility. The cook, ?Robertson? was a heavy set man who was very cheerful and knew almost all the crew on board. Quiet a feat since the ship had about 230,000 naval personal and Marines. He had a son who served with the Marines during the Great War. Now, with the war over. The UNSC had more time to worry about the Insurrection.

?Yeah, Rob. Same as yesterday.? Maljevik replied with a smile. Mal was no older then nineteen when he joined. He enlisted three weeks from the end of the war. He was assigned to 7th Marine Regiment, 8th Division, Kilo Company. One of only four ODST Regiments on board. Robertson gave Mal a plastic tray. It held a large hamburger, fries, a baked potato and a carton of milk. It?s what Mal ate everyday at noon ship time. He began to eat. Red lights flashed all around, along with an alarm, followed by a message by the captain.

?Now hear this, now hear this?? The speaker blurted. ?All personnel to their stations. We will be taking back a planet from Innies.? The speaker shut off. The whole room was quiet for a second before it burst into motion. Mal slammed the rest of his milk and ran down the hall. Along with other Marines. He ran in a full sprint for nearly 1/16th of the ship. He took a sharp turn down a hall. Narrowly running down a Navy egg-head. He continued to run down the hall. He came up to a heavily locked door. He pressed his hand to the scanner and it scanned his identification. His file came up. ?Albert Maljevik? It read. ?I.D: 10056-AM-760? The doors parted and Mal continued to run. He had a stabbing pain in his side but he ignored the pain and kept running. He hit another door marked with red. The armory and beyond that. Hell?s waiting room. The doors parted and he entered a room buzzing with activity. Other ODSTs strapping on gear and armor. The room was as large as a football field. Mal found his locker, he punched in a code and it hissed open. Inside was his drop armor. He started gearing up. First he removed the clothes he had on. His shirt, boots, side arm, pants. He started with his combat fatigues. Jet back Kevlar padding, stretchable, skin tight elastic cloth. He donned his armored boots that covered nearly all of his shins and knees. He locked them in place.

By the time he had donned almost all of his armor, save his helmet. He was a hulking crab of jet black ballistic plating, Kevlar and flesh. He inspected his helmet. It had a crimson stripe that wrapped from the base of the helmet at the back to a point just above his right brow. The armors? Heads Up Display or HUD kicked in. It analyzed his blood pressure, his heart rate and his squad?s status. He opened up his weapons locker next. Inside was his preferred weapon of choice. A BR55HB with the optical rail removed in place of a lower rail system with a scope mounted on it. He had it permanently set to semi-auto. He was the squads? designated marksmen. He holstered a M6G. He belted two frags and two smokes. One smoke red and one smoke purple. He filled his rucksack with a med-kit, a locator beacon and trip-mine. He shoved several magazines into his assault vest and headed for Hells? waiting room.

Hells? waiting room was a large room where all the SOEIVs were held. 7/8th was near the front of the room. Maljevik ran down the rows of drop pods to find his own he scanned for his name. It took him several minutes but he found it.
?Pod number; 638G? He said to himself. He climbed in and shut the hatch. His hands were a blur of motion as he strapped himself into his pod. He glanced at the timer at his HUD. 18? 17? 16? It read as he continued to fasten down everything that was on his person before the timer hit zero. He locked himself into place and braced his boots. 3? 2? 1? 0. The pod dropped, along with 7/8th and 7/9th. The start was stomach turning and Mal nearly vomited into his own visor. ?Man, maybe I shouldn?t have eaten.? He told himself. The computer in his pod linked him to the rest of his seven man squad. Several hundred kilometers below lay the world of Sigmus IX. ?I can tell this is going to be a long trip.? He said to nobody in particular. The pod continued to plummet to the surface.

Due to the Easter holidays being over (and college starting again), I can't get 100 posts per day anymore, so it's probably gonna be the day after tomorrow, or the day after that, subject Lambi...

Yeah, it's now one of the many sunk threads in my bookmarks, subject Sas.

I see, subject Dark. At least you'll get it this week, then.

Also, I changed my avatar back to this.

Do the subjects like it?

I have at least four sunken threads, subject Sas. SQ, SA, Don't I know you, my Hugging Game and now the Asylum.
And I find myself sometimes going side to side with my new avatar. I know where it's from and it's become a habit of mine ever since.

Subject Sas, then I have at least 5 threads since I have the Troll thread as well.

Subject Rain, the Asylum has been sunk. Now it won't update to the top of the Forum Games & RP section.
