Subject Toast, you just reminded me that in my college text book on how to construct effective arguments there is a section on forums and it talks about flame wars. They got it all correct too; on what a flame war is, why you can't really establish ethos on the internet, and even how to prepare an effective counterclaim.

Subject Toast, it's actually really helpful. It teaches people to debate on a level in which it doesn't have them screaming at each other because of what they say. It's a really good book to be quite honest.
