Subject Max, the key difference is that in Amnesia, you literally have way to fight back so it gives you a very real feel of hopelessness.

Night subject Max!

Well I just finished reading a part of 1984 about how kids are put into an anti-sex squad when the thread popped up so I had my ideas already in mind subject Void.

Maybe to you subject PR but I have a huge fear of underwater monsters so I was scared out of my wits when an invisible water monster chases you in Amnesia to the point that I was freaked out when walking by puddles.
