I've heard things of a Persona 3 anime as well which is a good thing since my problems with Persona 3 was just how shit the main character was and the anime can build a proper character arc around him now. GOD how I hate that guy!
They're making multiple Persona 3 movies, the first premieres in Japan today I believe.

According to Anime News Network, it's possible that the announcement may have been spoiled in the least climactic way possible: A VA resume sheet. XD

Seems that Karen Strassman (the voice of Nanako) has recently added a "Persona 4 volume 2" to her list of series performances, alongside Persona 4, P4 Arena, and P4G. Not sure what "volume 2" could entail, but it's interesting.

An EU release date for SMT:IV? Seriously? I do hope it's Persona 5 though. As much as I love 4 I am a bit sick of it. I want a fresh cast, fresh plot and a fresh setting.

I think that there will be multiple announcements (hence the three boxes). What I believe are the most likely options:

1. Persona 4-2
2. Persona 5
3. Persona 4 the Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold console port (fuck that's a long name)
4. Persona 4 Golden PS3 release

I'd be happy with any of these except for a Golden re-release. Persona 4-2 or Persona 5 would make me the happiest person alive :D
In all honesty I would like any of them.
With my personal opinion wishing that it would be a new Persona game with new characters.
Just since I think that Persona 3/4 will end with the new Arena expansion. (I think we can already expect a console port)

I just really want a new setting, characters and plot.
It would be great ... I would actually be surprised if they didn't announce Persona 5 tomorrow. >.<

But whatever, it sounds like anything can happen ... and hopefully we will all be happy with Atlus.
Unless it's Catherine ... (I didn't mind it, but I think we would prefer Persona)

If it is not a NEW SMT game for a HOME console, I am not interested.

I mean, between 2005 and 2009 we got six, yes, SIX original SMT titles on the PS2. That's Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call, Digital Devil Saga 1, Digital Devil Saga 2, Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army, Persona 3 and Persona 4. I'm not even counting Persona 3: FES (because it was just an edited re-release, like Capcom always does with all its fighting games) or Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon (because it wasn't released in Europe).

Since 2009, we've been getting portable re-releases of tons of old SMT-titles (Persona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Soul Hackers), a few portable edited re-releases of new SMT-titles (Persona 3 and Persona 4) and portable releases of actual "new" titles (Strange Journey, SMT IV, Devil Survivor 1 and 2). But where the hell was my Shin Megami Tensei for PS3?

Seriously, Atlus, what the hell happened? Did you blow all your resources on Catherine or something?

Well, sign me up for another in the "please please please be persona 5" but hey, who knows.
Ooh! maybe they're going to announce that persona characters will be in the fire emblem x smt crossover or something. probably not, but speculation is fun

If I were to guess I would guess that Atlus just sells more on handheld consoles than home ones, so it's more worth it to them to produce to handheld. But I don't know how well Atlus games sell in general, so it's a guess.

Yeah I'd be happiest with a brand new set of characters and setting but I'd still love the chance for one more adventure with the P4 gang. Maybe they'll announce both?

I still have to play Catherine -.- Got to finish Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix first then I'll move on to that.

It's more about development costs than sales numbers. SMT games have a small, but fiercely loyal niche in the gaming world, that typically have no problem following the games from one system to another. At the end of the day, though SMT games are far shy of the AAA budgets that modern main console releases tend to favor, so it was just cheaper and easier for them to develop for the DS/3DS than to bother with the needlessly complex PS3 architecture. XD

My bets are on
-Persona 5. New cast, new story, new everything!
-Persona 4-2. Same cast, new adventure, the self satisfaction of one last adventure with the Investigation Team.
-Persona 4 Golden PS3 release aka a good reason to keep you from wasting money on a Vita for ONE masterpiece.

Whatever the announcement is, I'm ready, i'll be happy, my wallet is ready to fork over everything thats in it, Sunday can't come any sooner!
And a dub for the Persona 3 movie would be icing on the cake...

I don't want it to be related to Persona 4 in anyway shape or form honestly. I like Persona 4 a lot, but honestly we need to move past it or it's going to become the Final Fantasy 7 of Atlus. Where a company beats a game to death because they know fans will buy it.

Persona 5 hopefully. The best part of the Persona games in my opinion is getting to know the characters. While I'd like to move on to a new entry in the series, the P4 cast is so good that I'd still be excited for a Persona 4 sequel

Ohhhhhhh. It would be awesome if that's what "Persona 4: Volume 2" is. Continue with the same setting, but get to see how Nanako grows up (even well written kids always have sparse personalities) and keep the main characters from Persona 4 on the sidelines. I would hope for this^ too

Typical dickhead loner anime protagonist is fair enough, little bit odd for a friendship game but they'll do the obvious and develop him out of that right? No? He's a **** throughout the entire game? #1 best character writing ever, well done Atlus
Ok, your hate of the P3 protagonist is well known but I've finally gotta ask: why do take his negative dialog options as cannon? My understanding of him is that because he "moved around a lot" he got used to making friends with different types of people. While the Yu is an outgoing, awesome dude-bro that everyone likes, the P3 protagonist is simply a quiet-type that people find easy to trust

I so badly hope it turns out to be Persona 5. Persona 4 was a great game, but Atlus seriously needs to give it a rest. It'd be far better to move onto a new set of characters and stories instead of continuing to milk #4.

Because there ARE no non-negative options at all. They're all a sliding scale of just slightly dickish or full on "fuck you no"

I took all the nicest options I could and I still think he's that bad. I tried to like him, really I did. The way all the other characters act with him doesn't help though, I never got the whole friendship vibe with them. The MC was a pet monkey they used to clear all the dungeons and they acted like he was an acquaintance at best apart from Aigis. Honestly I have no idea why he stuck around for the whole Tartarus gig, I felt like he could just fuck off onto the next train to nowhere and it would be in line with his character.

Also you have to max your three stats to even start Yukari, Mitsuru and Fuuka's Social Links. So you spend half the game in a coffee shop looking dark and brooding and then barricade yourself in your room to study.

Oh and you pretty much have to have every female girl in the game swooning over you to max Social Links, so he's a scumbag, cheating, womaniser to boot. P4 had a just friends option at least so you had a choice there. GAH and he's a bit of a prick to all of them too! Be nice to my Chihiro you scum! T_T

It's not that the MC is especially bad on his own, it's that the way the game mechanics are designed accidentally serves to exacerbate every little thing wrong with his character. I could go on forever.

Wot. Its been a year since I played it, but there was always a kissy-kissy nice option. Even when Kenji is going to ask his tutor on date you can wish him good luck. Maybe I need to replay that game sooner

When it comes to these games, I work backwards to understand who the characters are. How do I know Yu is so popular? Because he's the talk of the town and all the bitches are like "I hope Yu sempi notices me". In the same sense, the P3 protagonist is seen as quiet and mysterious and he isn't talked about that much to begin with. But because all the supporting characters put so much trust in him, I get the impression he "must" be trustworthy.

I didn't think about it that way. I've always looked at most of those things as the fault of the developer but since they're part of the game you can't really ignore them. Its not like there's a wrong way to play so I can't argue with you (but he was nice to Chihiro! I swear!). Here is your reward for answering my question:

female route for Persona 4
I've wanted this so badly ever since playing through P3P. However, any plans of a female MC went out the window with P4G most likely. I'm willing to bet that Labrys' design was intended to be the FeMC of P4 that got scrapped and used in P4A since they didn't want to waste her design. At least, that's what I think. But it's nothing more than speculation on my part.

Well, Persona 5 would seem like the most logical choice.

While the Persona 4 arena sequel is also a possibility, Atlus has already released a few details on it and given all the secrecy and build up that is going on around this upcoming announcement, an Arena sequel would be pretty underwhelming IMO.

And if this turns out to be just an announcement about the concerts I'm gonna hurt somebody.
