Based on the opinions of how many people? From what I gather, most people here are just glad that relations are good. Would they object if the North wanted to peacefully become part of the Republic? Probably not. That isn't the case though so I think most people are happy to keep improving relations and to keep crossing the border at Christmas time because everything is cheaper.

It was a huge mess that has only just started to finally go away so I don't think throwing around largely misinformed statements like you have helps the situation. As you can see, it's still a pretty hot topic for a lot of people and I think it's best that you either learn more about it (rather than basing your entire opinion on a romanticised view of Bobby Sands) or just don't comment on it.

Well I'm part irish, so I know that my ancestors were certainly on the receiving side of the atrocities line a fair amount but I don't know much about the ones they've caused, aside from being the occasional douchebags once they left their country. I'm also part scandinavian so, vikings I guess... As far as the US goes, since you've already mentioned the Natives and the African Americans, let's go with the Vietnamese. Where to start... There's the fact that we thought that they would be allies of China and Russia despite that being untrue to anyone with the slightest knowledge of the place, the fact that we supported a leader that a large amount of people absolutely hated and who refused plenty of reasonable peace treaties, and then there's the fact that we utterly destroyed the environment in order to help "win" the war... which we then failed to do, because what the hell were we thinking.

I think you missed two rather key points of my post, so I snipped the original post to point them out for you.

I wasn't making a serious post, I wasn't intending to get into a debate over the actions the United States has taken. I was mentioning something rather stupid that my country has done. Bush's invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq qualify fairly well in my mind.

I'm about half Native-American (various tribes) and they were kind of like 'hipsters'.
-Killing 'Indians' BEFORE it was cool.

The other half is a mix of Irish/Northern Italian/British.
