To be fair, there's a difference between making a sequel, and milking it.Amnestic said:People like sequels. That's a fact.
For all their cries of "Oh, give us more originality!" and "Stop milking!" you still see sequels rake in absolutely disgusting amounts of money meaning that people still buy them.
Why stop something that people love and want to buy? That's terrible business sense and not the nicest move to make to your customers either.
Example:
Gears of War 2 was a sequel, in the fact that there were still questions unresolved, and while they will need to make a third to answer the unlimited stack of MOAR QUESTIONS they piled on the original's, people still want to know exactly what is going on.
Dragonball GT is milking it. With Buu dead and gone (Okay, any fan will tell you he was as reincarnated Uub, but whatever), and the world saved by any loose ends, this was a perfect note to end the damn thing. There was nothing more to look into, the case was resolved, closed, complete, and put into a filing cabinet marked "That was pretty good, I guess...".
Now, while GT was not endorsed by Dragonball's creator, Akira Toriyama, it could be said that 'milking it' could have gone as far as the Cell series, where Toriyama had first tossed the hat of responsibility to raving lunatics. However, it is insinuated that it is unknown if Goku survived the destruction of Namek or not, and were given no word from the big good himself.
Thus, they continued, albeit, with horrible plot devices and the loopholes that followed them.
Well, that's my thoughts on the whole thing anyway.
If there's questions, explain them, unless they're questions that were made to make the reader or viewer think, so they may interpret it in their own way. If their isn't, cut the log and get off the toilet. Let other people get on and start spinning their own unique (I put this term loosely) piece of shit.
PS. I always felt DBZ stopped being good once time travel was thrown into the mix with Trunks. I wanted my hungry, kind hearted lunkhead back, not an entire confusing story arc about a villain nobody remembers, his brain ,his lovechidl with all the character's cells, and a pink thing that turns the mostfearsoem warriors in the galaxy into chocolate...
