First the bastards make him spit bubbles, then they give the voice of Elijah Wood, then they turn him Gothic, and then they erase the ENTIRE Spyro time line to squeeze another sequel out of the game, but DAMMIT THIS IS TOO FAR!

I am of course, talking about Spyro the dragon.

Spyro when he was the definition of fun

For those of you who don't know, Spyro was a beloved little purple dragon who could breathe fire, who had a total of 3 games on the original Playstation. The games were then, and still are now, beloved by many, and are actively considered classic Playstation games, along with one of the greatest game series of all time.

Until the PS2 came around.

After the original developer studio Insomniac began pumping out the "Ratchet and Clank" series, (another very excellent game series) they had no time for poor little Spyro any more. So Insomniac transfered the rights to the game to Equinox Digital Entertainment and Check Six Studios. After Equinox and Check Six made Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly the game rights were transfered around quite a bit, finally coming to a stopping point at developer Etranges Libellules.

So, now that you know all of that, you can finally hear why the developers' rights were transfered around so much: Because everyone else fucked Spyro up. As soon as the developers rights were released from Insomniac, Spyro went down hill. Fast.

So down hill, that Spyro had gone from a critically acclaimed classic: ([link]http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psx/spyroyearofthedragon[/link])
To a universally despised sellout: ([link]http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/cube/spyroenterthedragonfly?q=spyro[/link])

And now, I have just made the unfortunate mistake of typing "Spyro the Dragon" into Google.
Look what I found.

From the legendary producer of Eragon; here to crush your dreams again.... IN 3D!

[HEADING=2]FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC-[/HEADING]

I thought to myself, "This can't possibly be real!"
So I Wiki'd it. Well, guess what? It is real.
As it turns out, in 2007, Wonderworld Studios bought the rights to an Animated Spyro movie.

[HEADING=2]NOOOOOOO![/HEADING]

Who will help Spyro now? WHY SPYRO!?!?
WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS TO YOU!?!?!

BUT WAIT!
Just in time, publishing company Activision interfered with the project, and the entire movie pulled the plug. For once, Activision actually paid its' respects to its' work.

Well, although Spyro has gone down a rocky path, I hope that someday he will be returned to his former glory!
And maybe, just maybe, he'll finally get that great game that he deserves.

Huh?
What's that?

.....No.
No!
NOT AGAIN!
But... BUT THEY KILLED YOU!
No...
NOOOOO!

All good Spyro fans will not watch this movie.

However, according to TVTropes there's a broken fanbase between fans of the classics and fans of the newer games. I mean, really? That can't possibly exist can it?

Fare thee well, little purple dragon.

Nostalgia attack: must play the first three!

Am I the only one more annoyed at the fact that Gary Oldman is in the film rather than it being a Spyro film?

When will he stop starring in such awful-looking movies?

Wow, this sucks. When Insomniac was done with the series, it should have stayed dead, to be forever revered as a trio of classic PS1 games.

I love Ratchet and Clank, so I have no qualms with Insomniac moving on to their newest franchises, but Spyro was over back on the first Playstation and that's where he should have remained. RIP Spyro.

It's like what they did with Sonic, only nowhere near as bad, fortunately(?). If Sonic 4 is good, maybe Sega will finally realize that everything Sonic did after the 2D games was absolutely horrible. Then Sonic can recuperate in a rehab center, and return as a beloved franchise again. Wishful thinking...

I actally didn't hate the first of the reboot series, it was slightly refreshing, but then the series threw up on itself, with the second being a copy/paste marathon, and the third being so bad I just didn't buy it, rented, and regretted every moment, and a film on it will just be a mistake and hope it doesn't get made.

I rented the first Spyro game when I had ye olde Playstatione One. I loved it and nearly completed it before having to take it back.
I also had Spyro: Year of the Dragon and another one but I can't remember it.
I gave up after playing Enter the Dragonfly on the PS2
Bubble breath... SERIOUSLY?

I still have the original trilogy, and I play it from time to time.

Although I do like the legend of spyro games. All the others for the ps2 sucked.

I actually busted out the orginal game a few days ago after discovering it (along with my PS1) under my bed. Even after all this time it's a great game and much better than some of the dross pumped out these days.

I stopped playing after Enter The Dragonfly and from what I can see it's just gone the way of Sonic (random crap games pumped out to get money from those who still hold faith that a once great character can be revived.)
