I was already sick of Fiddy Cent's ugly mug before this thread...
OT: Interesting choices. Nice to see at least a little diversity.

What's so wrong about Zelda getting a nomination for innovation, it did quite a lot with motion controls I think it deserves some nod for that. Yet people take no quarrel with Bastion getting an innovation nod, a game that's just a top down hack and slash with a really good story. By the way I love Bastion and enjoyed it more then Zelda I just think it's silly how people are reacting.Kahunaburger said:Game Innovation

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't there launch titles on the Wii that had the "swing wiimote sideways, your dude swings his sword sideways" thing?lord.jeff said:What's so wrong about Zelda getting a nomination for innovation, it did quite a lot with motion controls I think it deserves some nod for that. Zelda is one of the few games to use the sword mechanics within an exploration adventure setting and the way the sword is controlled has changed from the early games on the Wii, as for narrated video games that has happened before Gantlet is the first that comes to mind as it happens to be a top down hack and slash as well, as well as several older games that tend to tell story specifically through a narrator, I know of the many difference in the games it's just the example I'm thinking of. I'm not trying to say either game doesn't deserve this, I'm saying if a game can get a nod for having one guy read off lines to you, the game that uses an experimental control system should get it too.Kahunaburger said:Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't there launch titles on the Wii that had the "swing wiimote sideways, your dude swings his sword sideways" thing?lord.jeff said:What's so wrong about Zelda getting a nomination for innovation, it did quite a lot with motion controls I think it deserves some nod for that. Bastion, on the other hand, is kind of cool in that it does something cool narration-wise that to my knowledge hasn't appeared in games before now.
I think this is the real question. Playable matryoshka dolls is definitely something new. Also Rock of Ages.lord.jeff said:As a side note why isn't Stacking mentioned in innovation.
I have yet to play that one, but the trailers make it look like it belongs. I will also note I think Bastion deserves a nomination for artistic achievement as well, that game was a joy to look at.Kahunaburger said:I think this is the real question. Erm, unless my eyes are deceiving me Battlefield 3 didn't win GOTY, Portal 2 did. BF3 just picked up the GAME (a retail chain like Gamestop who're about to go into administration) award, chosen because their customers voted for it online.F said:Battlefield 3 Won goty.. That's ridiculous.
Me too! ^_^Captain Pirate said:I'm just especially delighted Modern Warfare 3 and Skyrim won none of those awards.
And used a standard controller to do the movements. I think what makes SS stand out among those is the fact that it had Motion controls and decent ones at that too. Its story was better than most LoZ games of the past. It also added voice to a voiceless character. Personally I feel like the game put too much into the motion controls and that made its map smaller than previous 3d Zelda games. But I also feel that among those titles it was against it did the most innovative thing.RedEyesBlackGamer said:Uh, how about Catherine? Yeah I did poke around the areas and find stuff like Caroline and Cave Johnson's portrait. And the voice acting was superb, but I just felt the story was...rather easily written?bahumat42 said:its pretty unique in the way it tells you the story. And rather than events happening to you it was telling you how the place you were in came to be that way. If you looked around and absorbed what was going on it was very good in that regard.Cranky said:Portal 2 for story? Whut?
I do have Portal 2 and payed it a lot. But the story isn't exactly awesome.
Not to mention the spectacular voice talent.
I didn't insult you. I don't know where you got that idea.Elmoth said:And there are none, none that also interest me. I'm just stating my opinions, not fact. But I don't like you insulting me. "I haven't played any games that stood out this year in terms of innovation or story." would be much better.
