The only thing I did watch when I had cable (for free, was there when I moved here). The snack bar next door must have cut it.

Anyway other dutchies missing it because you got to have the digital 1000 channel package to view it? (Haarlem here)

Apparently we're the envy of the world. As I understand it pretty much every country in Europe at least wishes that they had a broadcasting system like ours.

Also, despite what everyone seems to think we're still a lot less strict about censorship than America.

A lot of people in Britain complain about having to pay their TV liscence but the fact of the matter is that the BBC take a lot of risks that channels funded by advertising would never be able to afford to. Without the BBC a lot of controvercial and/or innovative television would never be made which I think would be a shame.

However they also produce their fair share of shit too.The majority of the programmes on BBC3 are pure shite
That's what BBC3 is for.

Anyway, the BBC make Doctor Who, so they're awesome. End of story.
Not sure about Dr Who being that great. I almost just watch it to support British sci-fi. Missed last weeks and many others, having said that I'm not very faithful to any TV series that doesn't have Attenborough or Charlie Brooker

That is all<3.
Gotta love 'im and the awkward, 'Oh dear, I'm far too upper class to be interviewing the likes of you' pretentious, stilted interviewing technique. If he were a cat he'd be tophat cat.

That said, Bang Goes the Theory is a top-notch show too. I love how it takes an approachable view on science and really helps energise public interest in science and projects like the Citizen Science Alliance.

Essentially, what The Beeb does well is educational stuff. What it does very poorly is non-educational stuff. Stuff like 'Outcasts' and so on that attempts to painfully mimic US TV on a very low budget.

My major bone of contention with The Beeb is the fact that it double dips: we pay to commission all of the TV it produces yet we don't have free access to the back catalogue. That's not at all cool.

Like what? They did that one play about race a few years back with the racist black teacher and they've got that documentary about assisted suicide, but I can't remember any other controversial stuff they've produce. Most the time they toe the line with cringe-worthy politically correct material.

BBC is the only channel that makes good original programming. ITV melts your brain, four is just shit and five's only good programs are American imports.

The license is very worth it because of no advertising (other than of other BBC shows between programmes, which is another thing: programming is not inturrupted! :D)
BBC dramas and comedies and comedey pannel shows are always good, Case in Point: QI, Have I got News for you and My Family.
Yeah, the BBC generally rocks.

4 is about endless repeats of Friends and Everybody loves bloody Raymond. The only thing I watched on 4 was Scrubs.

Ah yeah, their comedy panel shows aren't bad. Forgot about that. I really felt My Family went horrendously downhill after it got rid of Nick.

What they lack is a good comedy sitcom/series, the only one that exists atm is "The Inbetweeners" which is no where near as good as people make it out to be but is the best around (due to lack of competition).
You forgot the IT crowd, and Peep Show. Two Comedies on channel 4 that are vastly superior to the Inbetweeners.
I guess it depends on taste; I personally find The Inbetweeners to be vastly superior to IT Crowd (felt that went severely downhill after season two, the current writer doesn't seem to understand what made Moss funny) and on-par with Peep Show.

Friends is awesome though. Then again, the boxset was £50 three years ago...

I like the trash on BBC Three. You know, like "misbehaving Mums" and stuff.
I'm awful.

I like BBC news, but I wouldn't say BBC as a whole is "amazing" or anything.

Top Gear Rocks. And I don't even like cars that much.
I don't care what anyone says, its good because they do crazy-ass stuff and generally piss around.

The three co-hosts are what really make the show great. Top Gear Australia is infinitely worse, because the hosts for that version aren't even nearly as likeable.

Hi! This is for anyone and everyone to share their views and ask any questions about the BBC, anyone is welcom, not just British People.
What THE FUCK happened to the in betweeners
its the only thing british I have found funny and its the only thing on bbc besides ramsay and top gear that I want to watch(but I got tired of them).
Most of the actors are in there mid 20's so if they carried on they wouldn't have made very convincing teenagers, it's not like hollwood were actors are playing teenagers well into there 30's.

What's the deal with not all of the shows being on the Mobile version of iPlayer. Particularly Radio shows? I want to listen to Guards! Guards! on my iPhone sitting outside, or on a walk in the country, or while doing the ironing.
whatwhatwhat???

As in the pratchett? Is it just a reading or a proper play?
It's a dramatisation. Though Guards! Guards! has finished and they're on to Nightwatch.

Hooray for the BBC is all I have to say. So much of the stuff they've produced has become a cultural icon, it's amazing.

I have to say I couldn't stand it. You can't do Discworld in a non-visual medium without at least some form of narration, and an occasional internal monologue just doesn't cut it.

I was referring to the Night Watch one, although I only listened to about ten minutes of it before getting fed up. Going back to it now, it seems a bit better than I first thought.
