My absolute favorite is Battle Royale, the actual book.
Best 20 dollars ever spent.

For me, my favorite books and book series would be: So You Want to be a Wizard by Diane Duane, The Lighting Thief by Rick Riordan, Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkein, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, Redwall by Brian Jacques, Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, and Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer.

Yes, I know these are young adult novels, but I really don't care.

Always and Forever the Douglas Adams classic series "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and the three following. I only say three because the fifth one left a bad taste in my mouth.

...but it was still Mostly Harmless. *ba-zow!*

Favorite book - Catch 22, as you can easily deduce from my username.

Favorite series - I really, REALLY enjoyed The Lies of Locke Lamora, and I know there's one more book from Gentlemen Bastards series (and the rest are forthcoming), but since it's impossible to get that other book in Poland, I'll never know if that series will reamain entertaining...

So, since I had to count this one out, I'll pick The Witcher series at the top spot. The last one was disappointing, especially the ending, but overall it's an amazing read.

George (Double R) Martin - Song of Ice and Fire.
Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson - The Wheel of Time.
Steven King - The Dark Tower.
Terry Pratchett - Discworld.
JRR Tolkien - Lord of the Rings (I still say this includes the Hobbit).
Ursula K. LeGuin - Earthsea.
Edited by GRRM - Wild Cards.
HP Lovecraft - The Cthulhu Mythos.
Harry Harrison - Bill the Galactic Hero.
Ed Greenwood - Volo's Guides.

I have more, but these are the ones that jumped out at me and startled my cats.

I would say Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy, but I haven't finished the last book yet. Heheh. I like Rick Riordan's books though. And the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games was an awesome book series. Just pretend the last few chapters of the third book didn't exist.

Hmm, it is difficult considering there are some books I love, but that's not because I loved reading them, but I loved the ideas presented in the book (Mostly conserning philosophy and ideology. You don't have to agree with the ideas, some are just great.)
The book I think I love the most on the merit of the book alone must be 'the name of the wind' It's just a great book. Well written, interesting plot, and I really love how different it is from any other fantasy I've read.

Age of misrule and kingdom of the serpent, both by Mark Chadbourn, best fantasy novels I've ever read.

The Sicilian. The Godfather was enough of a cultural icon to make me want to try it along with the movie and then graduate to the rest of Mario Puzo's books, but The Sicilian will always remain with me as the definition of a tragedy. As if to say, 'yeah, you think these Mafia guys are awesome? Well here's how screwed up their homeland was to make them like that, and here's what happened when someone tries to fix it'. Still relevant today during the struggle to 'democratize' the Middle East into something more stable.

I was also big into Animorphs in its prime. Even though they're generally very short and aimed at teens I'd recommend some of the Chronicles books as slightly higher literature, with 'Visser' probably being my all-time favorite. I also know now where they got that term from along with the name of one of the characters- the villain of the suspense flick 'Blood Simple' is named Loren Visser. The more you know.
